I'm in a MP game with a friend and yesterday we had massive join problem . The game said : different version . We discovered that the four letters after the version number had been different. After I rebuild a Vanilla and installed smep and daim we had the same four letter and could join.
Has somebody an idea how these four letters are build?
The game runs a checksum routine over the core database files (tech tree, unit model defs, province data, that sort of stuff). The end result is then translated into a printable 4 character code, the 4 letters you referred to.
Typing even one extra space in, for example, infantry_tech.txt will result in a different version code, causing join mismatches in MP.
