I am not sure what version I have on my computer, and I tried to upgrade it to 1.05, but it said it can't find the files what should I do, I have the files???

Did you change the install directory when you made the original install? That would be my guess. Maybe it would help asking in the support forum as well.
The version you are running appears in the top left corner of the screen upon loading (i.e. at the screen where you choose GC, 1492 etc).

U sure u have the right patch version(Strategy First, Vision Park etc)?
The distributors name and logo is printed on the EU2 box...

who is the publisher? check on the back of the box for the logo, beside the Paradox one.

I know my install puts it in a folder named after the company as well. Reinstall and see what happens.

Simple answer to that: eject the CD and look at it. On the face of it you'll see the Paradox logo, and the distributor logo. Post that here to find out the correct version of the patch o download.
Very weird this... heck, one might even be tempted to believe he had a 'warezed' version.
how would I know if it is a pirate? It came wit the box, no manuel though has the picture on the disc? I made a trade for it on GTZ.
What publisher has thier logo on the CD and Box then? With that info we can tell what version you need.

My guess is it must be a 'warezed' version. If you live in Philly then you ought to have the Strategy First version. Their logo is all over everything in all of thier publications. If you don't have it on your CD, (thrown out) box and (missing) instruction manual then I hate to say it but you've been duped and the problem is likely to be unresolvable since it would be SF's copy-protection that's fouling you up.
If you have the original CD, look at the bottom of it. You should see the Paradox logo on the left side, then two more logos. Which ones are on yours?

U really should be able to see if it is an illegal copy, an original always has that silvery shiny look, while a burnt copy has a green-blue surface.
