Hello, I started a mega campaign in eu4 converted it to vic3 and now im trying to convert it to hoi4. I used to do mega campaigns with vic2 so im not new to converting. But when i try to launch hoi4 with my converted save i always get some map error. I tried:
-Switching language (im from germany)
-Reinstalled hoi4
-Moved hoi4 to my main ssd

It always crash at like 50%. I attached error from hoi4 logs and output mod in hoi4 mod directory

Vic3 1.7 isn't supported yet.
 
Progress update:
Phase 2 of the province mappings update is at 65%. My day job is getting to the extra critical part of our critical phase, so not sure how much time I'll be able to put in during the next stretch.

Good time of day. I would like to help with the vic3 -> hoi4 converter. I have 3,000 hours in hoi4, so I think I can help collect and analyze information from both games. Perhaps working with databases. Well, or, as a last resort, testing.
Prime time is mostly weekends, there is no voice chat. If it's a problem, I'll understand.

Hey! is it possible to change the leader of a country from vic 3 to the hoi save? I want to put the H-guy in germany since i was playing a country in europe close to it and thought it would be cool to put him as a "final boss" in this megacampaign.

Yes, I know 1.7 converter is still not released.

Yes, I know 1.7 converter is still not released.
Your best bet is simply to edit the mod created by the converter. Especially, if you just want to copy some element from vanilla HoI4, it should be fairly straightforward.

Map changes are some of the more difficult to account for in the converter. The ones from this update were particularly difficult, but got us to make internal improvements that'll make future ones easier. There's some other small fixes, but as with the last one, this release is mostly for game update compatibility. But work on the stories system still continues in the background.

All changes are pushed to the converter immediately, so make sure to update the converter every time you run it!

We do log a lot of balance-related information, so it would be helpful if you shared log.txt from the converter directory even for conversions that succeed. That'll help us determine the correct balance. As well, we know there's a bunch of weird map stuff. If you find more, please report them here.

Hi, first of all, thank you for the update, but I may have a problem with it.
Idk if I downloaded it wrong, or if my save game is just not suitable, but the result is... rather weird, to say the least (Nothing like how its supposed to look like. I get it that the converter may still be in early changes, but if you know any way I could fix it, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks <3

I noticed a minor thing, I tried to convert my savegame of Union of People's Republics(communist HRE) to hoi4, and I got an error that the converter couldn't find the file. Renaming it fixed it, so i'm guessing it's the apostrophe. Not a huge issue, but I can see some less tech savvy people getting confused by this.

Yo! just fyi, it didn't work. I transfered everything from the base game that has to do with germany to the germany tag (GER), also did that to Japan (JAP) and Russia (SOV). They got the correct flags and political parties, but the leaders aren't correct, as you can see in the print. If you're curious and for anyone who would like to help I also attached the mod file!

edit: I was also able to change some of the mission trees to the base game ones, I know that Germany got like half of it for some reason and some which had the same tag didn't work (Finland was one of them, which is strange because both tags are the same (FIN/FIN)), also, after the last edits I did to the files I can't play Germany, the game crashes, that's not a problem because it was supposed to be just for the AI for some challenge in the head-cannon of the thing.

For characters, you'll need to copy over the character info too, in common/characters. Then in the country history, make sure those characters are recruited. Depending on the order they are recruited and if there is more than one potential leader for an ideology, you might need to specifically script who the leader is (promote_character is the effect).

I haven't looked at your mod files, but from your description, I'm not surprised it's crashing. Incorporating vanilla content into a converter mod is going to take quite a bit of work. The states are all different, the countries (and thus country TAGs) are typically different, and many other things are changed as well, so simply importing vanilla content is quite likely to cause issues. You have to think of it as an overhaul mod basically.

At this point, I'd encourage you to head over to the HoI4 modding subforum for more assistance.

Yeah, so this converter is still very primitive and unpolished with how some governments convert over, nothing you can do about that unfortunately.

I'm noticing a lot of seemingly unnecessary border gore in some places, if you're using the Historical Population Growth and Resources mod that's probably why.

OP has a submod in the workshop tailored for fixing victory points so go download that and load the save with it before converting.

Oh and there are no unique focus trees.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but… how do you do province mappings for the converters? Is there an automated process or do you go province by province and compare manually?

Can you include a Vic3 screenshot to clarify where things are off? As well, upload log.txt so I can get more detail on what the converter is doing?

Yeah, some of that is from Vic3 itself. I have a mod in the first post that will fix many of them, especially in the Americas.

Yep, that's what the in-progress stories system will accomplish.
