Hi there,

I've been playing a game as Nationalist Spain; around May, 1940, I joined the Axis and invaded France. Not only was the southern border sparsely defended, but whatever resistance I met was very weak. Consequentially, I managed to seize all of the area that normally goes to Vichy France.

Paris falls, and the US gets a "France Surrenders" event. Germany, France, and I, however, get nothing. Which means that France still has a naval superstack haunting the Mediterranean, and I can't help but wonder if my non-historical participation in the war has thrown the events off-balance. It's been about a month (maybe more?) since the US's "France Surrenders" event, and still, no Vichy Regime has even been suggested via event...

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

i supppose your non-historic action of taking all of France for Spain makes it impossible for Germany to release a Vichy regime. Perhaps you could trigger it with f12?

I doubt f12 will do any good. If Spain controll Vichy province (I guess it does, since you claim to have conquered "all of the area that normally goes to Vichy France") then Germany won't be able to release Vichy state.

Besides, great as it is, WiF performs very poorly when it comes to alternative history. Try backstab the USSR as Japan in 1941 or play an isolationist US - you'll see that AI will have great difficulties adapting to this change (more specifically; USSR will be unable to stop offensive in the Far East, or Britain will fail miserably).

Yeah, to be honest, I was really just trying to pull a Mussolini by DoWing France just when Belgium fell. I was expecting to make it barely over the Pyrenees by the time Paris fell. As it so happened, as everything was next to undefended, I barely missed taking Paris before the Germans did...

Thanks for the info. I'll reload to right before I joined the Axis, and avoid invading France.

Wait a sec... Bingo.

Basic requirements: you must not be a part of the Axis, Republican Spain must not exist, Germany must have helped you during the Civil War (since AI choices in WiF are set to 100%, I take this for granted), Germany must be at war and controlling Berlin, province 56 must be held by Germany (Guess it's Vichy, since the alternative is to have Vichy France present in the scenario).

Plus, one of the following situations must be satisfied:
A) London is not in English hands (Never seen this with AI Germany)
B) Neither Malta nor Suez are in English hands (Good luck, Italia!)
C) There must be no English fleets in waters around Gibraltar, plus England is player controlled (not the case)

Since the event's requirements seem quite hard to satisfy, I'd wait some time and join the Axis manually. :)

No problem. Good luck and post a screen once you finish the game :)

My bad ^^'

Yeah, the game ended up being a little bit of a downer. I joined the Axis just after France was annexed. After a little bit of planning, I managed to take over the Holy Land, and then annexed Iraq, while at the same time seizing El Alamein. Together, Italy and I actually did smashingly well; Italy took over most of southern Africa (annexing Belgium, in fact...) and we even started battling the Soviet Union at its Iraqi border.

The only problem was, Germany tanked. Completely. For some reason or other, they just failed at Barbarossa, barely reaching Stalingrad and Moscow (not getting close to Petersburg...) and quickly getting turned back. I think they'd been conquered by the USSR by march or may 1943. From then on, the allies took their sweet time taking me and Italy out, but they did, in the end. It was a little bit of a downer- I don't think Italy and I could have done a better job at what we were doing, but, in the end, that really didn't seem to help at all.

I'm pondering loading the game as the UK and releasing Republican Spain and seeing if some sort of Soviet-Allies war takes place. What are the chances?

Still, it was quite an exciting game. A most impressive mod, I've got to say! It's really impressive that the Paradox community's got such talented and dedicated builders in it.
