Everytime I select a battle to see, the game crashes after a while let it be sea, land or a land battle.

My computer isn't good, but I run below normal and always pause when seeing a battle. Then again, if I see it only for some seconds and then select something else, it might not crash.

Is there anything to prevent crashing, or does my computer just suck

Hard to say what the problem could be:

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Run a Virus check and a Adware/Spybot checker
6) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-4.

If none of the above helps, then:
Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

I've done 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 though I don't have a 3D card. (Video card is the same? I'm sorry I'm such a n00b)
I didn't update my game because last time I had 1.3b the game ran slower than worms, and I've heard that 1.2 reduces the lag a lot. Is this true or should I update to 1.3A or b?

Anyway I'll do the last thing.

BTW, I'm sorry if I said it wrong, but my game doesn't go to desktop, but instead doesn't respond. After it stops running and I press ctr+alt+del the box says "Hoi2 [not responding]" (win 98 SE)

Try to update to directX9.0c, update your video driver and sound card. Buy more ram.

Your system does not meet the minimum requirments to run the game in many areas.

For sure the 1.3B addon would since it is an AI patch, it puts a much bigger load on your system.
1.3a should not be as big of a deal.

Any memory you could add, would make a HUGE difference.

You are most welcome.
