Maybe it's my fault, but I'm unclear as to what sort of game this is. Turn based, RTS, IGUGO, Multiplayer, Play vs AI, what? The game's website does not seem clear at all on this.

Yep, just like previous post said: Total War + RPG. But it lacks a little bit in fighting. If you want to see epic battles then play Medieval II Total War.
