I'm somewhat curious about how the CK beta-test will work.

From my participation in the HOI beta-test, and what I've gleaned about the EU2 beta-test, the tests went on for several months, and at least some features were being added during the beta-test period, some even at the suggestion of the beta-testers.

Sergei seems to be implying however that the CK beta-test will only last a few weeks. There would obviously be no time for new features then - it would only be a test for stability and game balance.

Has anyone else gathered this same impression? Can someone from Snowball/Paradox confirm or deny this?

Well, Sergei has already posted that this week he and the Duke in Red will be going over what to cut from the game. So it seems that new things won't be added in the beta.:(

I don't know if "cut" is quite the right word, more like "planned features won't be implemented".

And Trip, what are your "sources"?

has anyone figured out what those stones say in the famous screenie photo?

Makes sense that features are being cut really... Sergei has talked about CK II a few times and they have to leave something for the next game.. Besides many of the features that will be dropped would probably required months of tricky big fixing which would be time better spent on CKII...

My however many tenths of pennies :D

The scoping of planned /hoped for features is perfectly normal in the last stages of game development, so there's no need to panic. Usually it's either that or adding large amounts of time to the development... and that usually isn't that viable an option for financial reasons.

With regard to the beta-process and any comparison to EU"/HoI betas it's hard to say. The major difference thsi time is that a lot of the developing is done in Moscow. I do hope Paradox will continue much as before (beta-forum, bugzilla etc.) as it has proved to work fine - also for external developments (Legion).

I haven't got a clue though... ;)

I shudder to think of the postage costs.

Not even that. I fear what the KGB's going to think about people overseassending that much mail to Moscow. :D
