What controls the attitude modifier?

Another quick question ... perhaps after too many questions I will get banned! But this game is great and addictive I want to know the in's and out's.

My question:
I'm England and I dream of vengance against France ... I would like to get into a Spain-Austria-Denmark allicance. Spain is the leader of the alliance and they have a -200 attitude towards me. Is the only way to raise this number to pay state gifts? and once I do pay, the attitude rises but then slowly (kind of) goes back down. What are the impacts or modifiers that would make the attitude go down?

You can put a claim on the throne. Hehe mostly likley they will see that as an insult , but you never know stranger things have happened :).

Religion, Tolerance towards each others' religion (if different) Do you own any of their core provinces? Your BB value...to name a few.

Well,it worked out pritty well for me.
Uc,I also had a problem with France(and the rest of catholic europe)but after I gave Austria and Spain 250 each,Spain invited me to their alliance.Maybe its just random,i HAD a different religion

Nope. You will have to lose it in a war.
