I finally had a satiesfying game of HOI. It was exciting, thrilling and full of surprises. In fact it was so fun to play, that I decided to see if I could manage to turn it into an AAR. Seeing as I have to work on Monday-Wednesday while 99% of the other Norwegian slackers have gone off to the hytte, I think I'll manage to scribble down most of the story during these three days.

A fair warning though: Some of my EU2 AAR's have been left in a state of.... well..... not exactly completion. I might blow this one as well.

Wish me luck ;)

Addendum:

My writings will probably not reflect my personal opinions of a lot of the characters. For the record I think what the nazies did during WW2 was horrible!

Oh, the game is played on Hard/Agressive.

A conversation

It is 1936, Germany is struggling to get back on its feet after the damaging end of World War I. A small group of National Socialists are having a meeting. most vocal of the group are two men; Joseph Goebbles and Adolf Hitler.

(And this is where I notice that my tram is leaving in 7 minutes, and getting drunk... errrr meeting my friends must come before AAR'ing)

(And back)

"Mein Fuhrer, the German people needs a common enemy in order to unite and work together!" Dr. Goebbles looked eager and determined to get the point across. The smaller man with the moustache was at the moment distracted by a passing waitress.

"What was that Joseph?" he finally responded.

"A common enemy, mein Fuhrer. Someone we can focus the masses attention towards."

The Fuhrer finally looked interested and motioned Dr. Goebbles to go on.

"I have thought long and hard upon this, and come to the conclusion that we should focus the common mans anger towards the Jews."

Hitler stared at Goebbles for a moment, then shouted:

"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?"

Goebbles was too shocked to respond, and Hitler went on.

"Would you like to see your Fuhrer dead, is that it? Have your propagandic little mind found a better man to lead Germany than I?"

"Nein, nein! Of course not..."

"The why are you trying to get me killed?"

"Killed mein Fuhrer?"

"My grandfather was a jew, you stupid idiot!"

Goebbles pales slightly at the news, but bravely forges on:
"Ehrr... Perhaps we could say that it was ok to be 1/8 jew?"

"Riiight, so you would only partially kill me then?"

"Of course not mein Fuhrer... but...."

"I will not hear any more of this, Herr Doctor. Do you understand me?"

"Of course mein Fuhrer."

And so history changes slightly. For better or worse, only time will tell.

1936

After the heated discussion on New Years eve, the National Socialists started the serious task of rebuilding Germany. A lot of time and resources was invested in research and the reward was a working (though basic) Electromechanical Computer. The beast took up a whole floor in the Reichstag, but it was worth it. With its computational powers Germany had greatly improved its ability to process old and new data.

The new discoveries infuriated the French, in their eyes any progress made by their old enemy was a step backwards for France. The Maginot line was patrolled by numerous divisions and the Germans new 'toy' was subject to ridicule both on the wireless and in French cinemas.

Germany felt no other option but to start building a defensive line of its own, nicknamed the 'Siegfried line'. Though small and puny when compared to the French monstrosity, it still provided the Germans living close to the border with a small sense of security. Two new armoured divison strengthened the feeling. Both divisions were reinforced with artillery.

European stability was rocked when the population in Spain clashed. The French and Soviets were quick to offer both men and supplies to the Republic, while Italians and Germans volunteered to help the Nationalists.

In the US Roosevelt was elected president, publically vowing to stay out of what he considered to be "The usual European mess."

At the end of the year Germany proved to have taken an American example to heart; numerous new industries was running mass assembly lines by the end of the year.

we want the bomb

The bomb topic....

Are you gents suggesting that Germany should develop a doomsday device and actually use it? Shame on you! Things would have to get pretty desperate for something like that to happen...

1937

The rest of Europe was experiencing a veritable landslide for the leftist, most countries elected leftist and labour parties. Meanwhile the Soviets were busy purging their officercorps from all possible 'traitors'. Mostly men who for some reason or other had brought Stalins anger down upon themselves. The fighting in Spain ended in March, the Nationalists had taken complete control of the country.

Germany was plagued with major strikes, communist sponsored workers did their best to sabotage the Nationalist Socialists efforts to rebuild the country. But due to the unfliching determinism of the Fuhrer, the countries industry was slowly being brought back into life. Scientists were discussing the possibilities of delving into the core of the atom, and isotopes were discovered.

The artillery was also upgraded, and all new divisions were now supported by their own artillery regiments.

In summer the Japanese declared war upon China, the Fuhrer made the following comments in a speech to the people:

"In the far east a new empire is rising. But it is an empire built upon blood, and cannot last! Unlike Japan, Germany has learned a valuable lesson from the past. Germany will NEVER start a another war!"

The crowds cheered the Fuhrers wise words.

1938, a year of glory and infamy.

Shortly after the Fuhrers impassioned speech and call for peace, Japan proved to the world that they had no care for human life. At least no care for anyone Chinese.

The following is an excerpt from a German news article:

"On December 9, after unsuccessfully demanding the defending Chinese troops in Nanking to surrender, the Japanese troops launched a massive attack upon the city. On the 12th, the defending Chinese troops decided to retreat to the other side of Yangtze River. On the 13th of December, the 6th and the 116th Divisions of the Japanese Army first entered the city. At the same time, the 9th Division entered Guang Hua Gate, and the 16th Division entered Zhong Shan Gate and the Tai Ping Gate. In the afternoon, two Japanese Navy fleets arrived on both sides of the Yangtze River. On the same day, December 13th, 1937, Nanking fell to the Japanese. In the next six weeks, the Japanese committed the infamous Nanking Massacre, or the Rape of Nanking, during which an estimated 300,000 Chinese soldiers and civilians were killed, and 20,000 women were raped. "

The horrors comitted further strengthened the comittement to peace. While few new division were deployed, the borderfortresses to France were steadily upgraded and the beginnings of anti air batteries set up along the coast.

Of mentionable scientific breakthroughs made by German scientist where:
Improved gears, engines and suspensions and 40 mm tank cannons for the armoured divisions; aircraft assembly lines; improved plastics. Most importantly the concept of using nuclear particles in a bomb, a betatron particle accelerator and magnetic storage devices. Most scientists felt that a working Nuclear bomb should guarantee that Germany would never be threathened by war again.

But most importantly Austria agreed to become a part of Germany, while Czechoslovakia agreed to the treaty of Munich and returned Sudetenland to its righful owner.

Also some of the industries most heavily hit by the Bolsjevik strikes last year was nationalized by the state. With the following boost to the industry, Germany was finally climbing out of the dark pit it was forced into after WWI.

The future was bright.

1939 part 1

4th of August 1939. A handful of prototype light tanks are rolling along one of the many new highways in Germany. The tank is being driven by one of the Fuhrers handpicked men and newly promoted General; Erwin Rommel. Adolf Hitler and Heinrich Himler are along to personally testride the new vehicle.

The small moustached man is laughing happily as the tank is rolling along, after a while he breaks the spell brought on by the powerful machine and speaks:

"Heinrich, I cannot believe how smoothly these new tanks are rolling. It is almost like riding in my staff car!"

"Ah mein Fuhrer, it is the new improved suspension you are noticing. Not only does it improve the quality of the ride, but on a good road the Lynx can manage more than 60 kph!"

The Fuhrer laughs long and looks happy. The recent political triumphs and the new technologies guarantees that Germany will be one of the leading countries in Europe. With Czechoslovakia paritioned with Hungary and Lithuania returning Memel to Germany, the Reich finally has enough lebensraum for all its inhabitants. Not only that, but Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Lithuania has all agreed to mutually support eachother as a response to the Commonwealth and Poland joining France in an alliance.

On returning to the Reichstag, more news awaits. Von Ribbentrop has returned with news from his meetings with Molotov.

"I have excellent news, mein Fuhrer. The Bolsjeviks have agreed to a non aggression pact with us."

"Joachim! You astound me. Once again I am in your debt. This is most welcome news. With the red threat out of the picture, I can concentrate on revising the medical and educational system in Germany!"

Von Ribbentrop blushes after hearing the praise, but looks more somberly when he continues:
"Mein Fuhrer, I do have some bad news. The stubborn Poles are refusing to return the parts of the Vaterland that they still controll. Goebbles is arguing that we should take the land by force."

For a moment the Fuhrer grows still, as if listening to an inner voice. He then brightens, and says:

"No Joachim. Though it pains me not to be able to bring all my fellow Germans under one flag, we will not go to war over a small piece of land. Instead we shall endeavour to return them to German soil through diplomacy!"

"Jawol mein Fuhrer!"

The two men is just about to say their goodbyes, when a messenger comes running unannouced into the room shouting:

"The Bolsjeviks have invaded Lithuania!"

The Fuhrer looks shocked, then composes himself and turns to Ribbentrop:

"Joachim, we must help our allies. Send the message to Stalin: This means WAR!"

Von Ribbentrop swallows, then stands up and salutes the Fuhrer.

"Heil Hitler!"

all those meetings. we(my self, dont care what everyone else thinks) want more action reports.

Kick those Reds to the curb. They need to recieve the enlightenment of a German government. Since you don't control Paris, there will be no bitter peace, so you can keep on marching till you hit the pacific. (lots and lots and lots and lots of lebensraum if you ask me)

klister: The action is about to start;)

Fuhrerdammerung: My intention was actually quiet peaceful. I wanted to see how the rest of the world would react to a peaceful Germany. And paint myself into a corner.

Suvorov: It was an unpleasant, but fun thing to do. And it felt in character with my peaceloving Adolf.

Wasa: Thanks for the support! :)

Last attempt at peace

Fully two thirds of the Reichs army rushed eastwards to fend off the Russian Bear. But Stalin wasn't too concerned with a paltry 20 divisions of Germans, across the border more than 50 divisions held their ground while another 20 divisions where moving into the small Balkan states.

Desperate ministers from both Latvia and Lithuania begged for German intercession, granting not only military access but placing some of their division under German control.

The first clash of the war happened in the skies above Rezekne, antique Russian fighters met up with the cream of Luftwaffe and the result was predictable: half the Russians went down in flames before the rest fled the airspace.

Adolf Hitler was left with a difficult decision; the 20 German divisions were barely enough to cover the border towards Russia, but their small allies were in desperate need of help. Though most of his advisors argued caution, the Fuhrer authorized the use of a full army consisting of 3 armoured and 6 infantry divisions to head northeast and clash with the Russians.

The Poles refused Von Ribbentrop's request for the German army to pass through Polish territories, and the fleet was forced to ship the men to Memel instead. Convoys ferrying oil and supplies were commissioned, but the initial lack of oil held the panzers back. An overture towards Stalin was made, but the angry Soviet leader refused the peace offering and claimed that he would destroy any and all German troops that dared interfere with his rightful claims in the Balkans.

With the Soviet refusal to back down, the Fuhrer had no choice but to order the counterattack. But the bear struck first. More than sixty thousand Communists stormed into Tichvin on the second day of October, and a lone German division was forced to retreat. Neither discipline nor technical superiority was enough to make up the difference in manpower.

but F12 and event 22?? something can...
