I'm playing as England in a GC. Its going nice, i have 3 german states as vassals. however i have a problem/question when it comes to peaceful annexation. personally i've never done it, because i cant. Heres the situation: I have The Palintine, Hannover and Hessen all vassalized. That means I have a military alliance, same religion, more providences, better stability.. all the requirements met for vassalization. now i want to annex them. but my Annex button is ALWAYS greyed out. I have +200 relations, and they have all been vassals for 10 years (actually one of them has been a vassal since 1498, and its not 1648!) Whats the deal? Do i need to have a certian amount of money to do it? what? the button is greyed out in the diplomacy screen, and i have no idea way. everything is perfect. please does ANYONE know why?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need a royal marriage to be in effect. Anyone can confirm this?

Actually I just checked and you do NOT need a marriage. However, you need to be MUCH stronger than your vassal.

But i am! I'm England. I own all of the birish isles. Thats southern england, scottland and Ireland. I also have numerous colonies versus 2 providences. Even if i wasnt stronger, its not that I cant get a nation annexed, the button is greyed out and I dont have the choice to. Do I need money to have the annex button yellowed? what??

Who told him that you need a common border? It is not in the manual for a reason.

That is a top secret piece of information, and you will be fined $1000 USD for violating the EU Rules Secrets Act. A second violation will be punished by caning. (Note - The violator must also pay the airfare to fly the 'caner' from Singapore to his home. However since EB handles the travel arrangements, the 'caner' will arrive a week late.)

I have annexed vassals without having a common border. Version 1.07c. As far as I can tell (I could be wrong) the things needed to light the button are:

10 years in the alliance
190+ relations (Possibly for 10 years)
Same religion
Common border NOT needed in 1.07c.

England is catholic in 1648? That's a surprise.

Are you shure ?
Could we please have some more specifics, like if it was a province only separated by water. Sometimes they are considered bordering.

I have only three examples Huszics... and all three examples are as Spain annexing Naples. As you know Naples starts out as a vassal of Spain in the GC and it is quite easy to annex it in the first 30 years.

Naples and Spain dont even come close to having a common border.

I could test the theory on a land locked country. It would only take a few hours. I even have a perfect candidate in my current game.

I'm also playing as England and discovered you do need a common land border to diplomatically annex a vassal. I had fulfilled the annexation requirements for both Hannover and Brandenburg but the option was still greyed-out. Not being one to give up I decided to declare war on Spain since I wanted Flanders anyway. Grabbed Flanders and Friesen (which shares a land border with Hannover) in the peace settlement. Sent a diplomat to Hannover and voila - was able to annex Hannover followed by Brandenburg. Now I'm working on the Hanseatic League...

I've also had problems annexing German minors. In my current GC as England, I am by far the most powerful player in the game, controlling all of India, Most of North America, Scotland, Holstein, the Hansa, and parts of Denmark. I have land borders with two of my long term (100 year) vassals and can't annex them. My diplomatic rating may have dropped to 150 during the period, I didn't look too carefully.

Sorry, mayby I overreacted. Just your way of answering my suggetion I guess
