I don't know for sure but a bit more advanced diplomacy than EU ??

and the dynasty part ?

Play Kingmaker and you will understand, plus the screenies haven't even been released yet? How can people whine with only Dev. Diaries

Besides, I will buy any Paradox RTS games, no matter if they are crap....

The point?

EU is about expansion, through warfare, diplomacy and colonization. Or really anything you'd like to do.

Crusader Kings, while similar, will be more about the glory of your dynasty.

Map only of Europe will mean better focus on Europe. There will be approximately three times more provinces than EU had in Europe.

The point is to gather piety and prestige points. Guess it is kinda like the VPs in EU.

You have to run a kingdom, keeping all of your people content - or if not content at least under your control, make dynastic marriages which will bring lands and prestige, and of course defend it all. Maybe take a side trip to the Holy Land - either as a pilgrim (for piety points) or as a crusader (maybe even more piety points).

And when those nasty pagans or Saracens (can I use that word on this forum?) get in the way of your expansion, why, just call your men to arms and cut them down.

:)

As it seems, there is more personal management involved: dealing with your subordinate aristocrats, with the clergy, the aristocrats above you, marrying and having offspring to continue the line, marrying away your offspring to get dibs on other, maybe more powerful thrones, etc.

As said, the main goal is to gather prestige points, i.e. being a pious and honourable guy, not necessarily the biggest duchy on the block.

I hope it also educates me about the time period just like EU and EU2 did. :D

My guess is that it will educate you but in a little different way than EU and EU2.

Since there are no events which can be tied to a specific playable person the events will have to be more general - no Hungarian inheritace event for Austria (Hapsburg dynasty) because that is the type of event you have to engineer yourself by obtaining a favorable marriage into another dynasty etc.

The guess in another post is that there will be events tied to non-playable characters Like the Martin Luther event in EU2 (there is a thread which contains much conjecture about Bernard of Clairvaux). I would think this type of event will be very instructive.:)

On the other hand, as Austria in EU2 you might have also "engineered" the diplo-annexation with Hungary and Burgundy yourself. Nevertheless did the game give it to you "for free" (which many people call too much foreordination). Yet I have to agree, that CK shouldn't have such events, as the causes of the events (good heritage politics) is now in the player's control, which was not the case (or only partially) in EU2. Still, one can't dany the fact, that the Habsburgian inheritance events could have also benn taken out of the game, as the player had the power to annex Hungary and Burgundy himself.

Think M:TW with a lot more provinces and a heck of a lot more realism. (Of course, that second bit wouldn't be too hard to do ...) ;)

dont forget ck not having the whole massive 3d battle gizmo

And which you never wanted to fight, as they took some 3 freaking hours each :)
But when you where supposed to beat back 15000 mongols with 1500 scrawny russians, you were kind of forced to.. just in order to kill the khan..

your kidding?

MTW battle sim is the best I ever saw. WAY realistic. It was the rest of the game that sucked. HORRIBLE!

One of the few games out there that I can say "I loved it, and I HATED it"
