Maybethis has been discussed before, but to the best of your collective knowledge, how long do we have to wait before this game is sold to the general public?

Until it is done seems to be the most prevalent answer.
I too am looking forward to it.![]()
The betatesting hasn't started yet, and I'd say we will have to allow for a few months of testing etc. so personally I'll be surprised to see a release before the end of the summer...Originally posted by Dixiecrat

This is how medieval communication works, no spreadsheets or P&L's.
I agree wholeheartedly! Paradox's reputation took a hit with HoI and CK can go a long way to repairing that given time.Originally posted by Demetrios
Well, I would rather wait and have it done well, rather than have it rushed and not be properly tested and programmed...

I think you have written my opinion very well, but I also see the point from MrT that HoI was not ready when it was published
I don't agree with your example here. EU2 was very stable on most people's systems from at least 1.02 (which was IIRC about 6-8 weeks after the original release version) and pretty much bug free by 1.05 (with a couple exceptions). The two most recent patches have been mostly devoted to some significant changes in play - AI, MP, etc. - and only tidied up a couple lingering bugs.Originally posted by Sonny
True but CK's reputation is already a bit tarnished, being so late with beta being "just around the corner" or only a "sushi dinner away".
While I hope the extra time produces an (almost) error free game, there is little guarantee that this is going to happen (how long did it take for MOO3?). Just look at EU II if you want to see an example - would you want to wait until now (1.07) before the game was released in a bug free state?? I certainly would not.Yes, I know EU II 1.00 had problems (although 1.01 was online by the time the game was on the shelves) for being released too soon. There has to be some reasonable amount of time when it should get to beta - not a year after it has been announced. And even if it does take a year to get to beta then why continually hint that beta is so close? Sounds like one of those govt. projects that gets out of hand and takes longer and accomplishes less than originally planned.

What I hope is that CK will be released when it is very close to something like EU2's 1.02 state...even if that means that the release is delayed to the fall - or, for that matter, until the US Thanksgiving Day weekend kicks off the Christmas sales.......................

HoI, by comparison and IMO, really requires the 1.03 patch to be roughly equivalent to the release condition of EU2. The 1.04 patch will, I suspect, be the first really strong version/patch that could be compared to EU2 1.02. When initially released the concensus from most players was that it was still in need of more beta work and code adjustments...sort of a 0.8 or something. (I should reiterate that the timing of this release was nnot under Paradox's control, but they had to suffer the consequences of it...far more so than any of the publishers who pushed the release date did.)

As long as it is in that sort of 1.02 condition then the only thing they'll hear is whining from all of us about how long it's taking to release it. IMO this is far better than to release it in 0.8 condition 2 months from now and have the forum flooded with complaints about what a crap game it is and how badly Paradox has dropped the ball again.
With any luck - and with a great deal of hard work from Paradox, Snowball and the soon-to-be beta testers - we might be lucky enough to get an awesome game sometime this summer. All I'm saying is that given a choice I would prefer to forego an early release and go swimming in water this summer, rather than wading my way through a forum full of angry posts and hate mail.
