The first game I played from them was either Airfix Dogfighter or Europa Universalis. So it must have been 2000/2001.

EU was on some game compilation that were common in the early 2000s and it looked quite great.
But is was far too complex for me back then and after trying to figure it out for an hour or so I uninstalled it - I mostly played "simple" games like CS, Q3A or SC and C&C.

Dogfighter was always a nice game on LAN for in-between the aformentioned games.

In neither case I really "realized" the developer - I didn't care.

Fast forward to... 2012 or something like that. I played World of Tanks and in the WoT forums there were some people sharing their screenshots of some WW2 strategy game that really looked like something I might enjoy. The game was of course Hearts of Iron (III).

The rest is history...

Paradox interactive was discovered in 2012 when I started playing EU3 and consolidated when I got excited about the imminent release of EU4.
Some savages will tell you that they had already been there for many years but the reality is that Paradox was discovered in 2012, it was only at this point that true civilization started to develop.
The primitive (and buggy) society of heathens existing prior to this is simply not worthy of our considerating.

EU I. But joined the forum for HOI II so I could download mods. Over dialup internet!

2018 when I met my boyfriend. He always played Stellaris and Hearts of Iron 4. And I often watched while he was playing and some day I tried both games on my own and enjoyed it very much.
Later we got into CK3 together and are big paradox fans nowadays. He, ofc way longer than me, but the last 3 years were amazing.
Such great games. Stellaris made it already on place one of my most played games in 10+ years on steam and Hoi4 and CK3 are catching up.

EU3 release. Had a buddy buy it from the US and bring it back to Greece for me.

Read the heck out of the manual when I couldn’t play on the family PC.

I quickly discovered all the other PDX franchises and tried previous titles just to see how the games changed over time.

Christmas eve, 1999. Swedish historian Peter Englund had written an excited blurb on his homepage about an ambitious port of a great board game to computer by this plucky little company responsible for the Svea Rike games. The forum had just been opened for registration.

The rest, as they say, is history.

At launch of EU3 back when GameSpot was still the premier gaming website.

I played a lot of Rome: Total War and Age of Empires II.

Then I saw a banner on the GameSpot website with redcoats invading the USA for a game which later appeared to be EU3 and I was very curious.

Later I saw the boxed version in a store. I believe it was some silver coloured box with a painting of musketeers dueling on it. I blind bought it and got hooked.

When the port of EU2 to Mac was announced. 2001 or 2002? About 20 years ago, either way. (I haven't been on a Mac in over 15 years, but I was then.)

I had heard of EU2 or EU3 on numerous occassions(just the name basically and that they are really complex) prior to this but for the first time I actually wanted to play the game was when I randomly stumbled on a youtube video of Shenryyr(I think) where he watched a EU3 Divine Wind death and taxes mod AI-only game. It wasn't a timelapse, it was him showing how the map evolved every 50 or so years by explaining what happened and showing the map. I was quite amazed at how good the AI seemed (lol), I thought the game looked too complex for me so it took me like one more month of seeing it in my Youtube recommended and watching a few more videos to actually buy EU3 Chronicles and the rest is history.

If im not mistaken, it was around 2014 when i first bought EUIV. In these years since i came to play almost all Granstrategy games from Paradox.
Prior to the announcement of Vic 3 i have being lurking in the forum and i joined after it.

Back when Paradox were still a subsection of Target Games. Used to play Svea Rike at a friends place, and later fell in love with Havets Vargar :)
I presume you mean this Havets Vargar, or be branded hopeless noob.
