I was just wondering if center of trades can come up anywhere or do they only come up in certain places(meaning: are there some provinces that never have the chance of having center of trade)? Also, I was wondering where are some places CoTs pop up. I've seen them in Mobile and Reunion(east of madagascar), along with some others.

it will usually pop-up in a colony surrounded by TPs. I'm not aware of any limitations (I've seen one in Kitimat!!)

I've a CoT pop up in Monterey, CA - a small Colonial City that now serves my American Empire not covered by Andalucia.

Odd - since I've got much bigger cities than that (i.e. the former Aztec provinces). It might be something to do with it being gold producing... who knows?

I believe it to be random based on the amount of production in a given area. This taken with the distance to the nearest CoT will spawn one randomly in a closer location.
Just what I've observed. :)

You might want to try hitting this site:

The "Land Province Table" has a listing of the stats for all of the provinces in the game. There is a column there titled COT, which I believe is basically a modifier to the randomization of if a COT pops up in that province, so that the selection is a bit random, but follows historical trends.

Of course, that value could mean something completely different, but I doubt it.

Right, in Europe COTs normally appear in Holland and Anglia (although if the Netherlands doesn't appear or England doesn't do well, then they won't). Otherwise, no COTs in Europe will appear except possibly by random event (but I'm not sure if this event ever occurs).

Yes, that's exactly what it means (but might also have other effects, though I doubt it).

Anyway, if your the first nation to an area, you can pretty much controll EXACTLY wich province will become the COT, even if it has a historical modifier of -3.
The trick is first build 1 colony ONLY, then start adding TPs here and there. Sooner or later there will pop up a COT, and since there is only one colony, guess where it shows up ...
