I was reading the new forum rules and this fact called my attention.

Is it because one is a left-wing genocidal regime and the other one is a right-wing genocidal regime?

I’m not complaining, just asking whats the reasoning behind this.

Specially with the current situation in Ukraine, and the horrible Holodomor events in the Soviet Union that happened to the Ukranian people.

Probably because PDX does business in Germany, where Nazi symbols are illegal.

In Baltic countries both Nazi and Soviet symbols are banned.

Not sure on where PDX legally domiciles its businesses but that might be something to take up.

Specially with the current situation in Ukraine, and the horrible Holodomor events in the Soviet Union that happened to the Ukranian people.

It's important to note that the USSR is not related to any current events in Ukraine, nor are its symbols, but Nazi symbols have been used in conjunction with attacks against democracy in the present.

For example?

As far as I know the current dictatorships are communist regimes (Cuba, Venezuela, China, North Korea, etc).

There aren't any nazi regimes in the present.

USA has seen a bunch -- Jan 6th insurrection, quite a few alt-right protests, and so on.

Where can you find examples of anti-democratic terrorists using Soviet symbolism?

Russia is not a "current dictatorship" to you?

Egypt's military dictatorship is supposed to be communist?

China and North Korea are arguably not communist either, though they do like to say they are. But they also say they're Democratic Republics, so we know what their claims are worth.

EDIT: as an aside, since you're the OP of the thread I'm answering your questions about this topic, but in general I think going any deeper into this discussion belongs elsewhere. I think the answer to your question is that PDX has legal reasons for prohibiting some symbols based on where they do business as a company.

In Spain it has been very common in the last decade to see the far left communists and socialists assaulting the democratic parliaments in Madrid and Barcelona. For example: https://english.elpais.com/elpais/2018/10/02/inenglish/1538467014_334868.html

The only difference is that in Washington that day they didn't have enough police to stop the protesters, while in Madrid and Barcelona there was a lot of security so police stopped the protesters. But their intention was to enter the Parliament.

Both are bad? Or when the protesters are left wing they are good and when they are right wing they are bad?

Russia is a dictatorship that has said that the invasion of Ukraine is to "denazify" the country...

There aren't nazi dictatorships in the present. But there are communist dictatorships in the present. You can't deny reality.

The question is a valid one (which @DebbieElla is better qualified to answer than I), but discussions of current or recent politics is utterly off topic for this forum. That stops now.

As I said in the original thread: this is not a comprehensive list and it often comes down to context.

In our experience, while historically many symbols can be seen as oppressive, some trigger negative behavior in our communities more often than others. We want to be strict with the ones we've identified as those triggering symbols, and leave ourselves room for moderating others. Suffice to say, no glorification of historical oppression will be allowed in our communities.
