This has been a problem (for me) for a while.

I have always cranked up the planets and pop growth. But it seems a couple of hundred years in, the Automation just cant be bothered to do anything. I can have huge amounts of unemployment, and tons of stuff to build on the planet, like the AI has just gotten bored. Im assuming its trying to force migration to a planet with jobs, but this is just dumb. Once you get a huge empire, you have less time to focus on building, but I am finding I need to spend more time because nothing is happening across my empire. The AI in the game has uprisen.

Does anyone else have this problem?

People have noticed this with AI empires too. I think there's a bad bit of code somewhere. Perhaps something turns off building when there's not enough pops for more jobs but it doesn't get turned back on again for some reason. Or perhaps it can somehow get stuck in a state where it can't pick a building or is waiting for something that will never happen. These are just wild guesses. I suspect whatever the mechanism, it's a rushed bit of code that needs to get fixed.

Its been like this for a long time, I think.
I've only seen people talk about it since 4.0 and how is worked better before, but still wasn't great. It is possible they are just noticing it more because of the other problems with the AI, but they seemed pretty certain it was different compared to before when they took over planets.

But I about that I am pretty sure I never played 3.x, I stopped for a while during 2.x.

I was in a 70 year battle with a crisis fanatic civ. I had 125 colonies, and totally stopped focus on them due to the bloody micro needed to squish their fleets. I ended up over -1000 consumer goods a month.

After the war ended I spent about 3 hours building stuff on pause (got major rsi). Fortunately I had zoned most of my minerals and alloys pre war.

It only took a few years to treble my research due to such ridiculous unemployment and entire planets with no development.

Im surprised its not been a bigger issue for people if the growth of pops is not as restricted. Maybe not as many people play this wide.

I think I bollocks'd it as I only just got jumpgate repair, and we hit 2500 and the end game is upon me. It also broke my wrist gaia transforming 125 planets. Another really late tech. Bit worried my fleets are underwhelming.

Research seems to take much longer, but then I screwed the pooch with my 30 research worlds with no scientists on.

No even opened the L gates yet

They claim to have fixed this in the latest beta patch, so hopefully there wasn't anything that they missed. Part of it seemed to be that the AI was trying to keep a number of unemployed pops. Looks like they did several changes to address the building issues.
