... or rather, why the lack thereof?

I was just curious why all placeholder portraits in the DDs so far were eyeless, or rather blank-eyed.

Do you think that means that the eyes are modeled separately, with an engine/model/wathever that still under development? Or they are just the easiest thing to do, so they're left for the last moment? Or Paradox just likes to play with blind characters?

They obviously have eyes. Maybe have yours checked :p They just aren't that noticeable. Some seem to squint. And many have weird postures where they look down or up instead of at the "camera"
 
i wouldn't call them placeholders. i'd say that character modelling is just WIP at the moment

That is a really nice shade of yellow!

And to leave just the reportable answer of my "post quoting the offending post", I just wanted to stress that I was not comaining about the quality of a pre-alpha WIP, I was just genuinely curious as to why the eyes looked like at an earlier design stage than the rest of the portrait.
