Dont get me wrong I love Paradox games a lot, but I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a little problem I had.

Wanted to install 1.07, downloaded (right version) but during installation wouldnt go beyond 0%.
Went to try to remove EUII, same problem.
Deleted all files manually through my computer.
Wouldnt reinstall (still detected on computer).
Cleared out the entry in the registry, program said I could install but would only let me remove or repair.
Tried to uninstall HOI so I could delete whole registry entry for paradox, same problem as before tried the same thing as before no joy.
Took gun, placed to side of head.....................
Well thats the next thing im gonna try unless someone can suggest something else.
Much appreciated, thanks.

Once you get them....you just must stay with them ...:D

I assume by your post above that you know how to edit the registry..

you will want to look in this section:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall]

you should see it there.. and just delete the entry

(basically, the entry for EU2 was not removed from the uninstall list.. so even though nothing else exists.. it'll still show up)

of course i assume no responsibility for any thing that goes wrong as a result of your playing with the registry. and it's safe to assume nobody else does either.

Edit the registry?
Nah I just muck around and delete any old stuff, it's not like it's important or anything....................
Seriously kids dont touch your registry, or even think about it.

Lockhart: Thanks for the info I did like you said and the uninstall registry entries were gone quicker than you can say "Universalis" (sorry it's late and ive run out of ideas). So now the install shield will run..................... run but not work properly. It's the same problem as I had before I started fiddling about in the registry in that the install shield bar stays at zero and wont move.
Oh well c'est la vie. Thank you for your help anyway.

Lets move you to the Support forum.

This ones for you MrT.

Chances are there's a lingering Installshield folder that's causeing problems.

Follow the link in my sig to the Support Forum FAQ and follow the instructions for completely uninstalling EU2. Then clean and defrag your drive and do a fresh installation.

Also note: EU2 does not seem to like being installed to a drive other than C:\ or D:\ so if you have multiple drives or partitions and don't use the default path, make sure you do install it to one of those two. Once you've installed and patched you could later move it to a higher drive if you wish (but would have to move it back for future patches).

Let me know if you're still having trouble after that and I'll guide you along.

Thanks for the advice, I searched for the lingering files found them and deleted them. Unfortunatly the same problem persists with the installation and uninstallation of the games (EUII, HOI) where the installation program wont progress beyond 0%. The only solution I can think of is a full format of the system which I normally do quite regularly anyway.

Very strange. If you've purged both the registry and the hidden Installshield folders then it should install with no problems. Are you certain you haven't missed one entry somewhere?

In my experience using WinXP's Add/Remove program utility (instead of the uninstall included with EU2) usually eliminates all traces unless you manually move the game folders after installation.

Another couple thoughts:

Is there any chance that you've got antivirus software running that is interfering?

Also, keep in mind that you must be logged on in XP under your administrator ID, both when you install the software and when you patch it. Doing this under a user ID instead can produce unusual results.

Nope the winxp add/remove programs wouldnt work either and the game was installed to the default directory and not changed (except to delete save games) at all.
I dont use anti virus software so that cant be a problem and the pc is a single user pc where i am the administrator and sole user.
Im stuck for solutions as this problem seems unexplicable.

Umm....yikes!

Okay, let's make sure I'm understanding this correctly:

You've now completely removed all vestiges of EU2 from your system, removed it from the registry, and deleted any hidden folders in the Installshield that relate to EU2.

Is it now that when you try to reinstall the basic version from the CD it won't install at all, or can you install it but the patch won't work?

I couldnt install at all, even the basic version.
Thank you very much for all your help but i played out a hunch and found out what the problem was.
It seems that the installshield program the one EUII and i think windows uses had become corrupt though i have no idea why.
I reinstall winXP and that seemed to clear it up, I should have realised before when the splinter cell demo failed to install, thanks again.

Ah...that would, indeed, do it. Glad to hear that you were able to clear it up since my next suggestion was going to be along the lines of your hunch.

Happy conquering. :)
