I've been playing the current version of the mod for a few hours now and I've noticed that the vast majority of the title holding characters populating the world keep getting into debt extremely frequently, often to the most crippling levels.

I've had to make some changes to the trigger modifiers to make it less crippling. While the problem isn't as bad now it's still annoying so I have to ask why the heck are all the lords so bad with their money, what the hell are they spending it all on all the time ?.

I play vanilla occasionally and VIET with some regularity and I've never seem anything this widespread of crippling.

What on Earth is causing this, did someone make changes to the AI and screw up or something ?

Anyone ?.

I, and many other peoples that I've seen on the forums an probably confirm this issue. In one of my games (brace yourself) the Lannisters of all houses, were about 400 gold in debt! How can such a rich family have such haemorrhaging funds? It just eludes my grasp. It's probably the cost of educating kids, because House Lannister is the equivalent of the Abbasid Dynasty in the Vanilla game, because Tywin and his descendants are just pumping those kids out like rabbits!

Education and Marriages costs way too much. This was always an issue but ever since revolt risk was to added to debt (what, are the small folk of Westeros hardcore deficit hawks?) it makes large realms suffer repeated and tedious peasant revolts unless the top liege has the blood of Valaria modifier.

Doesn't help that the AI has no idea how to hunt rebel stacks.

I have always thought that debt was too high, even before this I would save up money for years and only have to spend it on a kid that I didn't even want. I think it would be better if they had set prices for different levels of education.

I usually only pay for education for the oldest son and the second oldest it's waste to spend it on daughters and rest of the sons.

Wisely said, unless you have crap tons of cash education is largely useless as you can just assign the kids to a guardian for traits instead.

The AI is hardcoded and can't be modded. Which is very unfortunate because the AI is pretty terrible at playing this game a lot of the time.

Without actually seeing it, I can't really diagnose what's causing this, but I can think of a few things that could be contributing. We'll be sure to look out for it and see what can done gong forward.

Thanks for the report.

Maybe can you hand out condoms to the great Houses:p? That always seems to be the problem in my games, among other issues.

I agree, education costs are insane.

You'd think that, if the education cost is supposed to represent 10 years worth of costs for educators, equipment and whatnot, that the second son I choose to give an economic education would be show to use the same educator and stuff and have a lower cost ;)

Maybe not for martial educations, though. Horses, armour, weapons and such are a bit more personal.

I'm not entirely convinced it's just education costs. I should've taken a screenshot when I saw it but the ruler of Qohor was 8500 in debt 30 years into the game, while at peace. I ended up just paying them back to like 500 gold with the console, but I have no idea what could've caused that.

Qohor is landlocked, right? Sounds like they started a war they couldn't complete, so they just stood with their army raised forever. Happens to ironlanders and pirates who go on "raids" when their army is too big for their fleet as well.

Well they can always pay those pesky knights with IOU's..............

There need to be more ways to make money. IMO, a "gold mine" setting for certain provinces should give more tax income. Reaving also ought to be more profitable.

Check Casterly Rock. +12.00 Tax Income from a large gold mine. There's also silver and small gold mines. The Arbor has a Winery. Not sure about reaving, never play Ironborn.
