Hi

When I try to lauch EU4, the game crashes on "creating checksum" step, without any error messages.

The "clean reinstall" solution I found on these forums doesn't change anything.

The forum doesn't allow me to add attached files, so I can't supply you the dx diag right now.

The forum doesn't allow me to add attached files
I don't know why that would be, there are no restrictions with .txt or .log files.

You are using the Attach Files button here, not any link, is that right?

That's right. With the file attached I was getting "you are trying to post spam like content, go away" message. The only way for me to make a post to begin with was to remove it.

It works now though.

No clear cause of this problem in there, but you may as well update that nVidia driver to August 2022

If that doesn't help, what happens when you run eu4.exe directly from File Explorer? Any error show?

And
Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Hi. I updated the driver (new dxdiag attached) et run the game from EU4 exe in steamapp folder. The issues remains the same: crash on creating checksum and no error message.

I attached the requested files. There's multiple error logs but no exceptions log in the log folder.

That error log really looks like a corrupted install, if there are no mods involved here.

Did you do it exactly like this?

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

Hi

I followed the steps above - twice. The results are:
- I could start and play the game - provided I launched it from EU4 exe
- As soon as I launched it from paradox launcher the game broke and I had to redo the whole thing (that's why I did it twice). I broke it a second time just to be sure :D

So it's kinda both resolved and not resolved

Here's the same files all over again

The only way running the game from the launcher could corrupt it is if you have mods enabled in it, AFAICS.

Please try that one more time, BUT just after the Uninstall step go into the Steam Workshop for this game and unsubscribe from ALL mods there.

That really should do it for you!
