[Windows 11] Red box on world map when zoomed out

Hi, I got a new ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio monitor today and was excited to play EU4 on it, but when I zoomed very far back and tried to scroll the map left and right , a red box appears at the top and bottom of the map.

I tried this with the laptop's own display as well and on the lower resolution the red box also appears but only momentarily whereas with the ultra wide it persists.

I have also updated the drivers of my laptop's graphics card.

Attached screenshot shows the red box on the 21:9 aspect ratio monitor.

I do not have any clues what could cause this but as the bar only appears inside EU4 and not while using the computer to browse information etc I assume that it has something to do with how my computer communicates with the game.

You didn't give us your game settings files, but I'm pretty sure you are exceeding the game's supported resolutions, which are listed at the end of that system.log file.

Make sure you choose one of those in the launcher before starting the game.

Hi, I was able to reproduce this issue on my other computer using the same settings otherwise. I'll add the DxDiag for this one too and make sure to include the game settings files this time too.

Hi, I did not. I assumed 3440x1444 would be ok as it was listed both in the launcher menu and in game's main menu's lists too.

It should be in general, but as part of the diagnostic process I'm asking you to trial other resolutions. If you don't want to, that's your right of course.

Hi. Okay I will give it a try. Hopefully one of the other resolutions would work. If it doesn’t work, is there anything else I can try?

I tried some options! And I actually found a screen resolution where the red box doesn't appear at all. Here are the results:

• 2560x1600 Only very small red border which went away after a couple seconds
• 2560x1440 Game freezes either during the loading screen or in a random view in the menu. Unplayable.
• 2560x1080 Same issue with big red bars as reported originally with the 3440x1440 resolution.
• 2048x1536 No red bars at all when scrolling the map! First one to not do so.

All of the tests were ran with Display mode set to Fullscreen from the Launcher.

Okay then. This is probably a game bug, or at least limitation - this game comes from a time before any of those high resolutions existed of course.

You are welcome to report it as a bug, but I'm not sure of the chances of it getting addressed I'm afraid!
