I was thinking about starting some sort of community-based mod so as to add a little more spice to For the Glory, primarily to try and get our little community here - of which I am glad to hopefully be a part, if only a modding rookie - re-ignited in time for the upcoming patch.

This post is really to try and galvanise any support there would be among the established community, and to throw some ideas around as to which direction the mod should go in.

Ideally, I'd like to try something in the 16th or 17th century because I feel it would be better to start with a recognisable map (sort of...) and a few colonial areas so the great powers can get their respective overseas empires underway.

Perhaps some sort of multiplayer-focused scenario? It doesn't have to be, though.

I am not an experienced modder by any means - and truth be told I am quite new to Paradox games - but I think if everyone who had a little spare time posted here and was willing to contribute something, then between us we could end up with a nice new mod.

What are peoples' thoughts?

Austen.

Oh, I'll try it, but of course I had something original in mind : ]

Thanks, though.

Austen.

The thing with starting new mods for FTG is that there's too few people around here for the interest to last long enough, and there's already quite a few mods that have been in development for some time (most of them obviously since EU2...), but are still unfinished.
I don't mean to sound discouraging in any way, but I believe that there are already existing mods with great potential (for instance, Aberration, of which I have been a huge fan for 5 years at least), that would only require some polishing, and would be a bit more certain to get some kind of fan support, if you know what I mean.
Think about Abe - what it needs is exactly what you speak of, Austen: some later-game event chains and ideas. The mod's 15th-16th centuries are more or less finished, but most countries still need "material" for the mid to late game period. And a 1550s or later scenario would probably be welcomed rather warmly.

I had an idea going round in my head for some large alt-history. :)

Basically goes like this:

778.

Charlemagne's attack against Cordoba goes better than planned. Zaragoza actually opens the gates for him and instead of disaster at Roncevalles, he goes on to face and defeat Abd ar-Rahman on the battlefield. The Caliphate quickly falls apart. The conquest of Hispania is remembered as his greatest feat.

Louis the Pious is appointed governor of Gothia instead of Aquitaine, catches some sickness and dies. Bernhard of Italy succeeds Charlemagne as the emperor. The empire remains intact, goes ultra-religious and turns inwards.

~1190,

Jebe Noyan takes a better aim and shoots Temujin to death. Asia remains in disunity and diversion. Mongols didn't bring the black death to Europe. Economic boom of 14th century doesn't happen. Nor does the Renaissance.

Long story short: Asian states are "latin techgroup", they discover new technologies, colonize new continents, set up trade posts in Lusitania, experience a "reformation" of buddhism etc. etc.

Europe... behaves pretty much like China, Japan and Korea, with Francia some Norman state instead. :)

I'd do some work on it, although I don't know enough asian history to invent a plausible alt-history of the region.
