I thought this was going to be about the next DLC for a second :p I was like, "wait, are they letting us choose?"

that would be cool at least for a cosmetic pack for 6.6

I suspect they will use the rankings to focus in on for the next dlc.

Just continue to focus on the technical debt and not on a new DLC until you get it all caught up. There is still a lot of work on the naval side to get it right. Carrier Task Forces should be defeating battleship task forces. Planes fly out and back 100k easily. Battleships have to close to 25K, so Carriers should always win. Carrier Screens are circular around the carriers, not linear when protecting or searching for battleship groups. The pacific naval war is not the same as the atlantic naval war. Almost requires two engines. At any rate focus on technical debt not new stuff

Can we compromise by having them do Nordic dlc then focusing on technical stuff?

Well, they did let us choose one for CK3, so maybe some day...
Welcome to our newest dev diary! Today we're going to try something new --we're going to let you players decide what country group will be the stars of the next DLC!

a. Scandinavia, including, begrudgingly, Denmark
b. Scandinavia, including, begrudgingly, Denmark
c. Scandinavia, but drop Denmark (you will become eligible to buy the DLC at a 20% discount)

Given they made Switzerland work I want Denmark, let me wage war from my exile kingdom in Greenland. By 1945 Greenland will be a giant naval base, fully industrialized supporting a large scale insurgency in Denmark against Germany.

The survey is kinda lame. Seems either 100% sell "make believe" to clients to boost engagement or... market research for the sake of market research. What's the point in:
  1. Asking what we own? You have raw data, you know everything.
  2. Asking to assign priorities to the past content / non-cosmetic DLCs? Are you really sure people can accurately attribute these or those game mechanics to DLCs that were released 5-6 years ago?
  3. The question about cosmetic DLCs is even funnier. When I first bought HoI4 a few years ago I mistakenly included some music and 3D models. Do you really think I remember what elevator music belongs to what HoI4 "album"?
PS Just in case I'm totally happy with where the game is going for the past years. Except for may be (almost) non-existent QA and no paid resources on wiki.

Umm, for taking part in the survey i would basically require some more information on what the data being gathered is intended to be used for. I understand that PDX does not tell that headfront but i wish to explain the problem i see when i don't know beforehand:

As a consumer the voting behaviour expectedly would tend towards upvoting stuff that you don't own yet - so a bundle containing these expansions will be offered on a sale.

IF - and that's what we don't know - this would also lead to a conclusion that these expansions would be the most wanted - and the features of them would be the best bet for development to focus on in the future - the message would be plain WRONG!

There is a reason why a customer has NOT bought specific expansions yet. As a consumer the product does not offer what the consumer wants at the given price tag - maybe (s)he does not want that content at all and would only buy if the feel of a 'bargain' comes up ('it would not hurt to have this / that and the offer is too good to leave out'). A serious sale offer might make the consumer reconsider his decision as shown but does definitely not indicate that the content of these expansions would lead to better sales for more of that. Results of the survey could be interpreted in very much irritating way.

Just my opinion - please do not get that wrong:
Let's take the latest expansion. It isn't as bad as quite a lot of review scores on the net do indicate. I'd even say that there is a lot of stuff to like in it.
It's problem is that it was released (untested?) with literally hundreds of new bugs, even ruining many, many things that did work before. Hundreds of bugs have not yet - half a year after release been tended. Why would i want more of that and pay for it?

Why do plane pics not work properly?
Why do base game CVs offer hangar space for up to 220 CVPs per ship?
Why can we not queue up research and focus projects?
Why do - playing on historical - historical wars not start on the historical start dates but up to a year away from that (but some of them on fixed dates still!)?

My take is that the game needs more repair - not new stuff that won't work properly for many months after release. I cannot vote for that in the survey.

If the survey was more clear about what it will lead to, i could offer answers from a customer's point of view.

As is, it will at least lead to slightly improved sales numbers as %-off-sales generally improve them and because the awareness (and willingness to act then) by an unknown amount of customers got increased by a margin.

I love the fact that the devs care so much about our opinions, but I wish to clarify what I’m specifically looking for in a DLC.

Alternative history focus trees.
These are pretty universally loved, the fact that you can create your own dystopian history or completely unique storyline is fantastic, and I hope we get to see more wild alternative history paths, the more, the better. There is no “this is too dystopian” in my opinion, if America has a way to become a monarchy, that would be so wild, it would be fantastic.

New meta changing unit customization that enables new strategies and tactics.
Something I’ve been yearning for is the ability to further customise land divisions with individual infantry types. For example, I wish units has “riflemen” and “light machine gunners” or “landmines” etc. that way unit customisation can be expanded further to enable new strategies, specifically focussed around terrain types or defencive/offencive strategies. No longer is there a need for one universal infantry template, but instead we have the need and ability to make an infantry template made for attack and defense (a light machinegun squad mixed with landmines) vs (an assault rifle squad mixed with flame throwers) for example. Some examples of extra unit batallion types are:

Riflemen
Light machine gunners
Assault riflemen
Landmines
Flamethrowers
Bike troopers (already exist, but could be cool if everyone was able to use them)
Body armoured infantry
Night vision infantry
Mortar team
Sniper team
Mine clearing vehicles?

Extra note: I hope these units don’t all require separate equipment, as managing the factory production lines is not exactly a fun-factor for me, it punishes change and thereby creativity.

Focus trees for strategically super difficult factions.
Making focus trees for strategically difficult factions like minor factions is also something I love. Nothing is cooler than playing Greece and rebuilding the byzantine empire all the way from scratch, or playing the Netherlands and trying to keep both the east indies protected AND the mainland safe. I love it when complex minor factions get a focus tree. Another example might be Finland and Norway. Manchuria is also a great example, please make focus trees for countries that start at a weak position but have the potential to expand or have a great challenge in survival.

I am addicted to caffeine, sugar, and HOI4...

I stopped playing HOI2 about the time MTG came out and switched to MP HOI4. I currently own all the expansions and one or two packs (only because they came in a bundle).

WADR, while the packs are interesting - there are already mods out there that do the same and frankly better. I'm not going to pay for them.

I intend on pre-ordering the new DLC instead of waiting - only because of your demonstrated commitment to frequent minor patches. Thank you.

I hope to see more complex and interwoven Focui as well as continual minor refreshing of the Majors and the game overall.
