Fourth Playable Clan

Good evening Kindred,

Last month, we announced three of four playable clans in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2: Brujah, Tremere and Banu Haqim. Today, we’d like to share the fourth clan with you: Ventrue. The clan assets for Ventrue are in the process of being finalized, and we will share assets and gameplay showing off the playstyle of Ventrue during next year. Ahead of that deep dive we’re showing off an in-game render of Phyre in one of the Ventrue-themed outfits (all clans can earn all outfits).

Following launch, two additional clans will be made available in DLC: one giving you a new way to experience the main game and another offering a completely unique Seattle story.

Nicknames

The Clan of Kings, Blue Bloods, Tyrants, Warlords, Patricians, Borgias

Who are the Ventrue?

Ventrue vampires usually choose their progeny from mortals familiar with power, wealth and influence. Seeing themselves as the rightful leaders of vampire society, Kindred of clan Ventrue take up the mantle of leadership wherever possible, often in the form of high positions in Camarilla Courts.

What can you expect from playing a Ventrue?

Ventrue are blue blooded tyrants who incite obedience in both their allies and their foes. Using the Disciplines of Presence and Dominate, they can mesmerize as well as awe their prey. Feeding builds up Fortitude, allowing the Ventrue to soak up more damage in case any enemy is powerful enough to resist their force of will.

Ventrue powers focus on domination, forcing foes to obey your commands.

What’s Next?
Following the holiday break, we’ll be back with an extended gameplay reveal in January 2024 before going into depth on each playable clan during the opening months of 2024.

The Clan lineup of the game feels too safe, this just makes the low amount of playable clans even worse. How come a 20 years old game can offer more variety than a 2024 game ? Booooring.

If you play as a male character, will your sidekick turn into a woman? Why is Pyre, as a woman, never shown in a dress? As an ancient vampire, she should rather like old-fashioned dresses, and the player should be able to choose a dialogue option in which Pyre openly despises the new fashion as decadent and styleless.

Venture because Venture should especially pay tribute to and understand Pyre's passion for clothing tradition.

Only thing that concerns me are the yellow chain graphics around the enemy's arms. Hopefully those will be updated and made more subtle - no need to actually see chains. Just a subtle aura around the enemy showing theyve been dominated would be realistic and enough.

I always prefer enchantment spell effects to be subtle - even just a faint yellow around the arms without chains would be better. Otherwise, what - we are perceiving energy in the form of chains around their arms? Those types of graphics are too gamey for me, disturb the immersion. Always puzzling when those types of graphics are chosen in what's supposed to be a very realistic depiction.

Also, domination should really be quick and one-handed, like a flick of the wrist. A quick movement to dominate a mind would feel much more impressive and powerful - we shouldn't need a big movement because we aren't conjuring anything. A quick movement would also convey that we could dominate people relatively covertly. Subtlety, especially in the domination line, is so important.

As an ancient vampire, that's seen countless fashion fads pass by, and which no longer has any real stake in the world of the living, their main and really only concern for dress should be does it fit in with the humans. If vamps were as bad as adapting to a new time as some people seem to want them, it'd be a wonder they weren't found out millenia ago.

Any dormant vampire that wakes up has to very quickly adapt to the new time period. That's not unique to our player character, that's just part of being a sleeping vampire. I'm really tired of people saying we should, what, be a doddering idiot who doesn't understand that time passed when we were asleep, and if we want to crawl back to the top of vampire society we have to get with the times?

A young Ventrue, perhaps. But unless you're arguing that ancient vampires don't have personal favourites and that they don't have the attitudes associated with their clan they should absolutely favour formal wear and casual clothes designed to look like formal wear.

They're not going to let themselves fall so far behind that they stand out in a bad way amongst their prey, but they aren't exactly going to rush to "get with the times" when the times is a blink of their eye in terms of how long they've lived. Especially old Ventrue who will absolutely understand that chasing trends is a sign of lower status amongst the worst of the rich amongst which the Ventrue absolutely are.

Honestly though, in context to the actual image the only criticisms I would offer is that whatever you call what they're wearing on the upper half, it should have more decorations and possibly that the "shoes" come across as "office worker" rather than "rich".

There should be another word after rich, but I cannot recall if it would be allowed on the forum so imagine it's there.

Ok ...
Let me get this straight.

Vampires are "masters of blending into Human society" ... right?
You deliberately decided to make Seattle all cold and snowy ... right?

And then you decided that your vampire will be wearing sponge cakes for ballet (google translation) in that snowy town as if that was normal? o_O

Dear chineese room ... let me please quote Brian Mitsoda for you:
Humans wear socks, Vampire wants to seem like they are human > therefore its masquerade violation to not wear socks.
It was just a joke by the time he said it ...
But now i feel like you could use it as serious advice.

//Edit:
Wait ... there is not even a video this time? :D
You didnt have enough time to even capture your usual 15sec? o_O

I smell a red flag.

Honest question, who decided, "All clans can earn all outfits." is such a main marketing point that it's been included in basically all marketing materials released so far and why?

Not gonna lie, kinda disappointed by Ventrue when we already have Tremere with their own Dominate. In the first Bloodlines the only unique thing about them is having slightly more Dominate social interactions which IMO didn't justify picking them over Tremere with their unique content for me. Hopefully clans will feel different plot and dialogue wise since the Nosferatu and Malkavians aren't taking up all of the writing team's time, otherwise I don't see much point in ever picking them

Because they have enough foresight to predict the handful of people who would go around the internet claiming the sky is falling because their favourite clan is stuck in an outfit they don't like.

From what we can tell, clans share disciplines but those disciplines manifest themselves differently for each clan. For example, Banu Haqim's Blood Sorcery from their reveal seems to be their acidic claws as opposed to throwing blood projectiles around like the Tremere..

Every Clan reveal so far showed footage that already exists in the trailers.
There is no more.
The fact that this reveal only shows artwork is telling of the progress IMHO.
