To be honest, in the 40s, it's probably pretty close to accurate.

Really everywhere?

I see a Mexican desert province with 20% right next to an American desert province with 60%. I guess it's because of 'Murica though :)

Could just be a simulation of both Route 66 and the US railway system.

do your supply system support movements easter from the mountains?

Dang it, America, get your act together!

I assure you they won't :p

This is playing out exactly how US propaganda videos circa 1942 would have you fear. Oh my

Japan is missing only one thing now ... nukes.

The destruction of the Westcoast army group should be the final straw for the US defence, BANZAI!!!!!

The pocket contains 24 divisions including one of the few tank divisions US have, I am looking forward to crushing it.

I don't know. It's a long walk east and that's where most of the good infra and starting IC are located.

It's true that USA has most of IC in the east, but recreating 24 divisions will take some time. At the moment several divisions are busy containing the pocket and few others are slowly pushing to the east and I can tell that US resistance is lower with that 24 divisions trapped. Once the forces containing the pocket will become available once again I am sure I will be able to do a large push towards east.

For some reason, the mainland US is just 60% and 80% infra everywhere. It makes you wonder how much research has been done on that :p

Even 60% infra is considered good by the standards of the Imperial Japanese Army. And it's enough to supply IJA. Port capacity is the main issue.

and a huge sack is formed.

With grand total of 24 divisions. This one is on par with my encirclements in Soviet union when I play as Germany so I am pretty satisfied with this one. Even more if you take into account that it has been created almost without any armored force.
In fact I was hoping that I will be able to create such pocket when I was planning initial landings but I haven't dreamed about prey this big.

do your supply system support movements easter from the mountains?

I will post supply map in the next update but so far I haven't encountered any major supply issues apart from supply system going a bit crazy after linking both beachheads together.

(16th - 30th September)

Supply situation is still in favor of Japanese army. Total 51 levels of ports are enough to bring sufficient amount of supplies while additional ports are under construction and nearly finished.
60% infra in the mountains is good in comparison with e.g. China or other places where IJA fought and so far no supply shortages (apart from obvious one after linking beachheads when supply system wen crazy) were experienced.

2PazjaY.jpg

Good news for Imperial Japanese Army, US divisions trapped in the pocket are running out of supplies which immensely eases containment of the pocket as the divisions without supplies have incredible combat penalties (up to 50%) and slowly lose organization when they're completely out of supplies.

UPzHDhF.jpg

Formation of the pocket and disruption of combat abilities of 24 divisions gave required momentum to other IJA divisions in the west as most of other places are defended by one or two divisions which are easily broken by a concentrated strike at one place.
I am attacking only at few places but from all directions which are available to get the numerical superiority and invoke combat penalties to defenders (even when it's not needed), this reduces casualties suffered by IJA and increases damage done to US. Human wave approach is available at this moment and the advance would be faster but the casualties would be tremendous and reinforce costs even higher.

F2B1h0B.jpg

3 Kiheshidan and 10 'Kurogane' Hoheishidan finally managed to repel US attack on Cedar Mountains which was of the bottleneck provinces and immediately started counterattack upon exhausted and disorganized allied divisions.

LRjabcL.jpg

Winnemucca being last bottleneck province is almost permanently under US attack which are luckily too weak to prove something. In the picture there's last US attempt to escape the encirclement as shortly after bottleneck was expanded to 2 provinces area and US trapped in the pocket gave up all hope.

8qKCBL2.jpg

Maybe in response to increased advance of Japanese forces USAAF tried to disrupt IJA supply lines with logistical bombing executed by their strategic air force. However their plans hasn't worked as IJN carrier air groups intercepted almost every bombing attempt and severely damaged US strategic bombers which rendered them useless for upcoming weeks.

KRjJKDj.jpg

While US bombardment attempts were successfully retaliated freshly repaired Japanese medium bombers appeared on the scene one again and even executed 2nd most damaging ground attack (the most damaging ground attack were executed in Needles in June and US army suffered 320 casualties).

HSBN7JR.jpg

Apart from other battles which had to be made to close the pocket and finally get rid of huge part of allied forces defending West Coast battle for Ashland was a massacre. 3 IJA cavalry divisions were attacking into mountains against defenders which still had enough supplies to properly fight which resulted into almost even casualties.

NHeCoox.jpg

Attack on Milford was on of the sample attacks made in the West. Attack from multiple direction which cripples US ability to defend and superior numbers of attacker often lead to quick and total obliteration of the defending force.

rGP46bh.jpg

Progress made in last 15 days is clearly visible and IJA infantry is few steps from capturing another bunch of allied divisions near Mexican border (2 US infantry, 1 Canadian infantry and 1 US garrison).

7TzMSqI.jpg

At the East coast the situation reached into a stalemate, neither of the sides has enough power to deliver decisive strike to the other and Americans are well aware of the fact that eventual recapturing of the Washington D.C. would turn into a bloody grind which were seen during operation Barbarossa between Germany and Soviets.

great update! how nice is to control the Pacific

The pocket is still holding! Mayhaps it can hold out the rest of the war! Maybe not, but...

37. The invasion, part 12
(1st - 15th October 1942)

In Ashland IJA cavalry encountered a probe attack of USA tank division which was trapped in the pocket. US attack was properly counterattacked as major general Anami Korechika was well aware of the situation and used all triumphs in his hand.

nNWjPJ5.jpg

After nearly 6 month long construction new ports are ready to bring in more supplies. Every single province from San Diego to San Francisco will have its own port to in order to increase amount of supplies brought to the front.

f8r3eg4.jpg

Vale was one of places where Imperial Japanese Army was defending instead of attacking and this battle, like the others, was won. Japanese army presented its superiority once more.

y8M9JpG.jpg

Bombing of Yreka, where US armor division was located, showed the fact that majority of trapped units is still well organized and there are no supply issues in Yreka, meaning this province will be a tough nut to crack. IJA presence in surrounding provinces must be acquired before mounting an attack so another massacre like the one in Ashland will be hopefully prevented.

l0JQjQM.jpg

Brest, port where one of two IJN carrier task forces is stationed, is from time to time under light attack of RAF which is always vigorously repelled.

rkdzVah.jpg

While the pocket is shrinking with every moment, attacks on the other side of the front do not cease. On 8th October massive attack on Delta was launched. This province stands in the way towards Salt Like City which is one of the tactical objectives for upcoming month as it will provide a valuable airport to Japanese Airforce.

RUfxb1o.jpg

Another small encirclement has been achieved in vicinity of Phoenix, which is also important tactical objective thanks to its airport. Without any assistance of fast moving divisions Japanese infantry managed to trap 2 garrison divisions, 2 US infantry divisions and one Canadian infantry division as well.

LzKb30w.jpg

During reconnaissance trip into English Channel, IJN carrier air groups designated to air intercept missions successfully intercepted RAF strategic bombers sowing havoc into German industry areas.
Reconnaissance sail also discovered that majority of British ports are lightly defended, usually by a single division, which is nothing experienced SNLF couldn't handle.
I've discovered that you get NU bonus from intercepting strategic bombing even in cases when you're not a target of the air raid. Good to know.

wMSBpiv.jpg

Situation in vicinity of Phoenix is becoming a mess as bottleneck province, Safford, was attacked by US army. In order to ease the tension incurred on Safford several counterattack upon US forces have been launched.

z0nqNzy.jpg

The pocket was reduced to 5 provinces and the defenders are finally out of supplies which means that in few days the pocket will shatter and disappear completely allowing bulk of IJA forces to reinforce the front which is pushing towards East coast.
Estimate of 300,000 allied soldiers will be shortly taken prisoners of war.

Nooooo! The pocket must hold! It has held out for so long! (at the very least, hope it holds out beyond one month  ).

38. The invasion, part 13
(16th - 31st October 1942)

IONulRr.jpg

Advance to the East must continue, therefore Burley (northern desert province) was attacked. US army tried to delay the attackers, however brilliant major general Kawabe Masakasu countered US army tactics with shock. He's now level 6 general and is nearing level 7 (during the attack he had 60% to level 7).

gT3Orli.jpg

Mountainous province of Spokane defended by Canadian army was attacked from multiple directions and Canadian were expelled without suffering too many casualties.

OXPh15m.jpg

Yreka was captured and remnants of the pocket are shrinking with every moment. 24 allied divisions are about to be crushed.

IOMHvOf.jpg

Battle of Trinidad has been won and nearly 200 thousand US allied troops surrendered. 2 US divisions including armored one in Redding surrendered shortly after which meant final destruction of the pocket. 24 divisions were destroyed and Allies lost about 250,000 troops in this pocket.

r97Mmp2.jpg

Situation in the South is much more dire, therefore attack on Yuma was launched in order to deplete organization of trapped divisions. This pocket must be contained as soon as possible due to increasing pressure on the bottleneck provinces.

QhQQZt8.jpg

Delta was captured which opened possibility to mount the attack on Grantsville which was won after 3 days long skirmish where 522 Japanese soldiers were slain while US army have lost 2904 soldiers. Occupation of Grantsville will open second direction for upcoming attack towards Salt Lake City.

soNuU5e.jpg

After collapse of the pocket West Coast looks much more nicer when it's fully under Japanese control.

qYy45vy.jpg

Pressure on Lordsburg and Safford is increasing and Japanese forces are about to be expelled from those bottleneck provinces.

lKpazHg.jpg

After suffering severe amount of casualties Taiwan Shidan of general Horii Tomitaro is expelled from Lordsburg, defenses of Safford were defeated 5 hours later before reinforcements have chance to arrive. Luckily no mobile divisions were present during US attack so it's likely that Safford will be secured and Taiwan Shidan will have opportunity of safe retreat.

2j4Ld1l.jpg

About 20 divisions are now being strategically redeployed to various places at the front to strengthen Japanese army.

G3mX8sV.jpg

In the north Imperial Japanese army is slowly gaining upper hand and more and more provinces are falling into hands of Japanese.

mbh5cOU.jpg

Yuma was secured and violent attack on Tuscon is raging. If these three divisions will lose organization before any US divisions will manage to arrive to Lordsburg of Safford those divisions will be lost.
In the end 182 Japanese and 2372 US soldiers have died, this also meant destruction of another Allied divisions which would be needed by US elsewhere.

Causality ratio has risen to 3.28 from 3.26. Allies suffered too low casualties from ground attacks due to lack of air bases our bombers could operate. Therefore securing of Salt Lake City is main objective before winter arrives.
