Simply so that you don't end up buying so many pieces of individual DLC, what options have been considered?

You mean like a season pass?
PI has previously stated they won't do season passes, since doing season passes means being much more rigid with regard to DLC/expansions, since if they do it they have to pump out x DLC and y expansions a year (even though they might not be finished) and they cannot insert extra DLC/expansions that year.

Glad to hear it. I'm not a fan of season passes myself.
It was however the only thing that came to mind regarding the op's question.

Season passes sound like a great idea.

Would people prefer a subscription. Just sign up and don't be bothered with the hassle of having to manually buy each DLC - for those that know they'll be getting every single one? subscribing might give you a discount or other special bonus?

So you are changing your position on this?
If it doesn't make the system more rigid---i.e. it doesn't mean that half finished expansions/DLCs have to be published to meet a quota, or that an expansion/DLC have to be postponed until the next year, because there already has been published the required amount of expansions/DLCs---then I would buy a subscription without hesitation.

Subscription > season pass, if any. Season pass bad, no me gusta.

A season pass is essentially shelling out money in advance without knowledge of when and how much content will be released.

Subscription (automatic purchase of dlc on relase, receiving a discount) would be fine. I might even go for it, since in truth it would not make a significant difference in my purchasing decisions.

It'd be nice to have a full PDS subscription including absolutely everything from the Paradoxian Order to all PDS Games and DLC's!

Pretty sure that was sarcasm, but...

Seriously, I think current DLC policy is fine how it is.

This is not about people who are certain to buy all the DLCs or even regular fans of paradox that follow the news, read the DDs and so on. They will buy DLCs no matter what, a season pass (don't do subscriptions for a mainly solo game, ever, it's a terrible idea), might enable you to squeeze a bit more from this target audience, but it's not really relevant IMO.

It's about the new customers that hear about the games two year laters (or old customers that returns to the game after two years)

And they see this :

This would put off anyone from buying any game. The DLC list is larger than the game description ...

This is just telling people "you're not actually buying the full game for 40€, the full game will actually cost you 145€"

Also even though there are sales quite often, the price tag of the game or its older DLCs never changed.

I agree with this. A subscription/season pass is a good idea as long as it doesn't interfere with the quality of the content itself. I don't mind shelling out $7-$15 every couple of months as it is, because I know PDS has taken to time to make exactly the kind of expansion they set out to make. Without a schedule the dev team is free to stick to their original vision until they get it right (or until Wiz yells at them?). With a season pass model, I'm afraid the quality of product would suffer with fixed release dates/months.

I don't know if bundles really make an aweful lot of sense.

Look at CK2 for example. Had they already done a facepack bundle & a unit bundle before Iberian dlc's, then what?

Or you bring em out after the definitive last DLC of a kind (music/sprites/units) has come out...somewhat meh.

I prefer bundles, the passes would be too rigid and enforce the devs while diminish quality.

A pass would, yes.
A subscription wouldn't, imo.

Not that I'm actively advocating for any of these things.

Ck2 works through cycles. We're in the second cycle now so everything from cycle 1 should be bundled.

What happens when we reach the end of the sixths cycle? :eek:hmy:

Just keep doing what you are doing. It is the steam interface for dlc's which is the downfall.

Yeah. Though it was even more horrible when it didn't show which was already in your library *shakes head*
