With El Dorado coming out not too long ago and with room for a new DLC I was thinking about what I'd like to see.
What I'd like to see, is a Theocracy DLC.

I would like to discuss with anyone who's interested how we can make Theocracies/Holy Orders etc. more interesting than they are now.
Honestly playing as the Teutonic Order bored me to tears, since there's really not anything special, and there should be.

Besides mechanics for every theocracy on the globe, I'd also like some extra focus on the Papal States.
You'd think that the long-time religious leader of western Europe would have more to do than sit around and expand a bit.. For example, flesh out the "Form Kingdom of God" decision (It's really not much now).

Also I think all the theocracies deserve hundreds of new, and special events, adding to the flavor of playing as one.
Does anyone else share my views, and what would you like to see?

I had an idea for a DLC not just about theocracies, but about "doomed states," as many of the prominent theocracies at gamestart were. It would provide alternate history events and the like for those states if they made it past their historical end or did ahistorically well. Main focus would be on the Crusader States and the Hordes, but it would probably impact other states as well.

-1 - in this timeline Theocracies (with the exception of the papacy and the principalities-bishoprics in HRE) had to secularize.
if they managed to survive i could actually see it working out for them without secularizing

Theocracy dlc would be interesting, if we have dlcs about mesoamerica and merchent republics we can have one about theocracies. Perhaps covering their secularization, or in the case of Montenegro, transferring from a monarchy to a theocracy.
If we go the doomed states route: TO, Novgobear, Mamluks, Burgandy, Provence, Timurids, Brittany, Scotland, The Beyliks, Trebizond, Tabarestan, etc.
I for one would be highly amused if Trebizond had the same flavor level as Byz.

I do like Macdon's idea though, that this could be included as part of a larger religion focused DLC. Some religions could use some more flavor, events, achievements and bonuses. For instances, Coptics could be able re-establish their own Patriarchy, and in doing so, great a whole new mechanic for the religion, including things like a Piety system. Yeah, historically some of these religions were not as influential or impactful as the larger ones, but EU is about creating alternate histories as well.

The Copts already have a Patriarch, he's the Bishop of Alexandria (moved to Cairo at some point, title is still the same)

The Papal State being my favorite country, alongside with the Teutonic Order and the Knights, yes, I'd really like to see more religious orders, more religions (Judaism making it's way into the game is a wonderful, if incomplete, good thing imo) and more religious type wars, CBs. I'd especially like a CB that only allows forcing the conversion of an enemy's religion with a huge reduction in war score to do it or maybe if occupying all their lands simply lets you force it for very large countries. My dream CB would be to go around forcing government change to Bishoprics. I'd probably spend countless hours just going around forcing religion then forcing a Bishopric. To be able to go around forcing Jewish Bishoprics, or the equivalent assuming there ever was such a thing, would be extraordinary.

Incidentally, the decision just popped up to "Release Jerusalem as an Independent State." I assume this means they aren't a vassal? Does anyone know? (not talking about Jerusalem achievement which is a different thing I previously did)

while I allow one guy to publish theocracy mods through my account, I'm against theocracy DLC for now. I rather see religions themselves fleshed out before we get any more government based content involving $$$

If all they did was to add governments, there would be no point. Having missions and events and the addition of things like Jihads and perhaps a Muslim equivalent to the Papacy view, and something for sure to improve things for Far Eastern Religions. The latter don't even have defender of the faith as an option. All in all, governments are the last issue. New CBs besides just the couple we have, that are specialized and religious based goals beyond just the Najd achievement. Even the Papal State's achievement, which I did welcome, still only had go make some marches and get Jerusalem back. Nothing particularly aesthetically pleasing. The immersion for religion, especially the non-Christian ones is sorely lacking.
