After update 2.7 I receive this message: "Failed to start game (invalid platform)"

This is confirmed; Win7 64 bit is now the minimum OS for 2.7 and later patches. Since MS no longer support XP or Vista, we don't test on them any more, and this is the patch where that's come home to roost.
