As is only proper, my noble uncle Charlemagne has given me the honor of commanding the rear guard of his forces as we return to France! Now we have learned that Marsile and his foul Saracens have beset us! Their numbers are considerable. Though it may seem cowardly, I have no choice but to alert my uncle to the presence of the enemy. Wise Oliver, bring me my famed horn Olifant so that I may blow it an summon the whole Frankish army to reinforce us! Never fear, our bravery and faith in the Lord will surely see us to victory against these Mohammedans and their diabolical Garwalf allies. Onward Christian soldiers! Destroy the foul Loup JCan who is clearly providing succor to the filthy infidels! His death will bring us glory undying such as no man has ever known!

What time keiser?

Actually, it's just the LatinKaiser School of Thought, a much-derided form of selecting my target for Day One voting: Thou shalt always vote above thyself in the signup list.*

*If the player above thee is dead, skip one up. If thou art the first player in the list, vote for the player at the bottom.

2 -- Dr. Livingston, I presume (Lostie [82], Audren aka King Mark [73])
2 -- JCan, Evil Saracen (Yours Truly [81], Ithvan aka Wise Oliver [68])
2 -- Capage (Jeray [66], Latin Kaiser aka Charlemagne [80])
2 -- Aedan, Yseult, Beautiful Princess (Arkasas [62], Capage [84])
1 -- Audren, Mark of Cornwall (Jacksonian Missionary aka Archbishop Turpin [79])
1 -- Arkasas, Morold, Irishman (Livingston [70])
1 -- Me (Aedan aka Yseult [83])

K-59
Herr Wagonlitz aka Ogier the Dane
JCan, Evil Saracen
Claude the LateComer, Oppressive Soldier
Ramius

Notes! K-59, Arkasas, and Audren died early in the last lite. I've aggressively tried to kill Ramius for 2 games in a row. Never played with Ithvan or Dr. Livingston. All these players are safe from day 1 votes from me. Aedan's day 1 votes seem pretty random (though he did once mention that he prefers voting for people he don't think will add much later :(, so... I gave him Yseult :p) I had been wondering what LK meant by "that time again", but now I see. He seems often to attract votes for his heretical voting methods.

"Heretical?" Please. :p Standard Day One voting methods were never officially anathematized; only certain members of the community have a significant problem with them.

Glad I'm so easily peggable as an Irishman? I suppose in absence of marty...

(We don't have a good plural for "garwaf", I am afraid. In fact, there 2 other variations of singular "garwaf" within the first 8 lines; "garualf" and "garual" are the other versions. No wonder it bears the title of "Bisclavret"-it saves trouble of having to decide between several choices of garwaf. For those interested in the spirit of grammatical accuracy or immersive experience and that.

What's garwulf, anyhow? That comes from Frankish "verwulf".

And a bisclavret? One theory is that it's from Breton bleiz lavaret, "talking wolf", and another is it's from Breton bisc lavret "the one in short pants" The latter makes more sense when you consider that clothes play a part in many of these werewolf stories and that there is a Westphalian and Hessian folk tradition of "The Wolf with the Pants". See Joseph Loth's “Le lai du Bisclavret: le sens de ce nom et son importance” if this sort of thing intrigues you and you can read French. It starts on page 300 of the edition of the Celtic Review found here.)

My brothers.
I am but a humble woodsman. You know me as your friend, but the slanderous dog, Alynkio, tries to have you kill me through deceit and obfuscation. Heed not his words, for he seeks illness upon us and our kingdom. Look to his pockets, and you shall find the real Saracen gold.

I find it hard to trust JCan's words here.
If Aedan flips wulf, he could be his partner.
Actually, looking at the wagon, jCan is always more likely not a breton.

Surely the Breton folk tradition would have more in common with Welsh, Cornish and Irish traditions than with Hessian and Westphalian stories?

I implore thee, Cabbage, vote thou not for me, the humble woodsman.

Recall the tale of Little Red, and thou will agree, the wolves should fear me.

I will be away for some time; do not expect my return for about 24 hours. No hunt no lynch kthx.

(Of course some people would take that as encouragement.)
