PDX needs to make an American Civil War Game with the Clausewitz Engine. A good ACW game would be a best seller!

Victoria II (or III, if that's in development) take place in that time period; V2 even had a full expansion dedicated to the ACW.

That isn't what I was thinking though. I was thinking more along the lines of a HOI type game.

That will not happen. It has way too small scope and you greatly overestimate the draw of the US civil war. Plus HoI4 does not fit that time period. No tanks, no airplanes, only cavalry, infantry and artillary. Sorry but you don't need any division designer for that era. Victoria 2 military setup worked very well for the US civil war. But Paradox has said numerous times that such smaller scoped games will not be made for the simple reason that they were not profitable. They tried (twice, I believe) and it flopped both times.

Do you mean Sengoku and March of the Eagles?

Sorry to hear that. I've played the ACW in Vicky 2; not much fun.

I know you don't need a 'division designer' but the effect of leadership is very much lacking in Vicky 2.

So we need Vicky 3.

Oh yeah :)

Hopefully with a minister system, and much more moddability, while still keeping everything that made V2 great (like the POPs).

HOI 4: ACW. either as a mod or as a standalone DLC within the base game. there's actually plenty of scenarios that HOI 4 could fit for if it had some expanded internal politics mechanics.

While I don't disagree with you, have you tried AGEOD's ACW / ACW II? It's not pausable real-time but it's a pretty decent game.

didn't paradox publish AGEOD games a long time ago?

I'd prefer pausable real time, but I will check it out. Thanks!

If you've got Empire Total War you could try the mod American Civil War - The Blue and the Grey

Have alook at these two also

Matrix games Scourge of War Gettysburg

Ultimate General Civl War

Ultimate General Civil War is by far the best game so far for the time period.

The tactical strategy in it is actually really good. The maker used to do Darthmod for Total War. I clocked in over 600 hours on it. Really worth to try.

Is the ACW really that special? Ir took a few years, only 2 sides involved and no diplomacy. I wouldn't buy it.
There was a lot of diplomacy. The CSA trying to get European recognition and buy warships, and the USA trying to prevent both from happening. Canada and Mexico were also heavily involved in the war.

indeed. the UK and france both nearly ended up supporting the confederacy wholeheartedly because of a major diplomatic faux pas the union made.

Yes, the Trent Affair. Queen Victoria's husband was mostly responsible for preventing war between Britian and the US.
