Howdy folks,

It's been awhile since I worked on my mod Expanded Israel due to real life circumstances and the disbanding of the original partnership for Monotheism Rising. I am porting everything I worked over to CK2+ as a submod. Part of this is renaming it to Aliyah (The Return) since Expanded Israel was focused solely on Judaism and Jewish people. I am excited to finally finish this mod. :)

Features

Religion Changes and Additions
Judaism reforms into the Grand Sanhedrin
Karaite reforms into Temple Judaism
Haymenot Judaism
Nazarenes
Ebionites

I did reformation events for Judaism into the Grand Sanhedrin with the Rabbis controlling the temple. Karaite reforms into Temple Judaism as it represents the Levite Bene HaMizrah's of Persia controlling the temple.

Haymenot is included because I did add in Beta Yisrael. They do not reform.

Nazarenes are the very first followers of Yeshua Im'manu'el (Jesus Christ). They were Jews and observed the Torah while maintaining that Yeshua was both fully human and divine by ascribing to modalism. They had a schism before the end of the first century that gave birth to the Ebionites. The Ebionites were more of a gnostic sect that reject the divinity of Yeshua and made him a normal man.

All of these religions use autocephaly.

Cultures
New Jewish cultures are Itali, Iberiani, Jewish Khazars, Cochin Jews, Samaritans, Romaniote, Beta Yisrael, and Bene HaMizrah. They will follow the graphics of the dominate culture of the area they are found in. This may lead to specific melting pot events later like Itali mixed with Germanic would produce Ashkenazi Jews or Iberiani mixed with any Spanish/African culture would result in Sephardi.

Events

Beginning of Israel Game
Jewish Coming of Age Events
Expulsion and Welcome Back Events
Jewish Holy Orders : The Maccabean Guard, Knights of Khazaria, Lions of Solomon, Knights of Goshen, The Siqariqim, and The Mishkan Guardians
Jewish Sins events for both the people and priests
Jewish Holy Festivals of Purim and Rosh Hashanah
Rebuilding Jerusalem small event chain that adds to certain holdings special upgrades like Mirabel would get level 7 castle walls.
Mending the Schism between Nazarenes and Ebionites that would lead to mending the schism with other branches of Christianity.

Societies

A new society for Judaism grouped religions that is based upon Kabbalism. Nazarenes will get a new monastic order.

Special Councilor Titles
All Israelite cultures use the same titles for their councilors.

Special Minor Titles

Alluphs are the champion of the realm.
Navi's are prophets ordained by G-d.
Shofet's are judges that are ordained by Yahweh.
Tehillim sang or wrote psalms that praised Adonai.
Adrichal is responsible for the creation of new buildings and their designs.

Requirements: CK2+ 4.07 Beta 5 as Beta 6 will crash during Loading Flags.

Merging all the old files with CK2+ is just about done. I renumbered all the old events etc... I'm trying to decide if I want to keep Nazarene and Ebionites with Christianity or switch them to Judaism. If I switch them to Judaism that will give a total of three mending of schisms versus two. I'm open to suggestions from people on what they want to see.

Tribal traits are in as are the random Jewish dynasties. I have flags for all the dynasties plus a start up on-action event that distributes tribal traits to random Jewish characters.

I think I'll use the historical Ben David family that were the Exilarchs under the Persian then Abbasid Empires. There is a trait for being of the house of David that gives bonus modifiers. I'll give the Exilarch the county of Jerusalem since Anan ben David, the Exilarch, was in Jerusalem at that time running a synagogue. Sure beats the fictitious person that's holding the title now.

Two events I removed from the old mod was the Massiach and HaMassiach trait events. Since I am taking the view that the Jewish Messiah has already came and ascended to heaven then having another one show up is blasphemous for me.

Jewish assassin events will be worked on in the second release. They basically were a Jewish version of the 88000 Hashashin event chain.

Two additional holy day are done which are Shavuot and Hanukkah. I can also add in Sukkot at a later date, so Jewish characters always have plenty to do festival wise.

If anyone is interested in beta testing feel free to send me a private message.

I'm proud to announce that everything has been merged and does work with CK2+. I don't know how many bugs there are since it's not beta tested, so feel free to leave any bug reports. I will squash them as soon as I can.

This is where I would have taken the mod back before Monotheism Rising broke up. It has a good portion of what I wanted to do minus the artifact events. Seems that in the past two years Paradox put out their own version of the artifact system that I was working on.

Next update will be the schism and mending them between the various Jewish sects. Nazarenes and Ebionites will be able to mend the schisms with Temple Judaism and/or Grand Sanhedrin first then the schism with Christianity. Temple Judaism/Grand Sanhedrin will only mend schism within Judaism itself.

Feel free to leave any comments and remarks about the mod itself.

@WarLordXII alerted me to a CTD bug if you are using CK2+ 4.07 Beta 6 when it is loading flags. Thank you for the report. :)

I updated and made my mod compatible with CK2+ using 4.07 Beta 5. Requirements have been added to the first post for what version of CK2+ is used.

Are you referring to the Christian viewpoint? The Jewish one is that he'll pretty much be whoever appears to lead the Jews thru the end times and restablish the David kingdom and the Temple.

I'm referring to the Nazarene viewpoint. Nazarenes were the first followers of Yeshua and were all Jews during his earthly ministry. The word Christian doesn't appear until the Bar Kokhba Revolt of 132-135 AD as a way for Roman Nazarenes to distance themselves from Jewish Nazarenes. Jewish Nazarenes were run out of the synagogues and Jewish towns or were put to death by Rome for being Jews during the revolt. For the first part, it was because Rabbi Akiva declared Bar Kokhba the messiah and the Nazarenes could not support them. Rome declared that one could be a Christian or they can be a Jew. Nazarenes that adhered to the Torah and their Jewish ways were put to death. Hence, why Nazarenes were hated by both Roman Christians and Rabbinic Judaism. They refused to pick a side. LOL

I'm very aware of the Judaic viewpoint is, but thank you for the reminder. As a Nazarene that is also a Nazirite I do not feel comfortable with putting that event in. Yes, I had that event in when I first made Expanded Israel, but in the intervening three years I've did a low of growing spiritually. If someone wants to add them as a sub mod that's fine with me. I just cannot due to my beliefs.

@WarLordXII latest bug report it appears that I was missing a few Jewish cultures like Itali, Iberani, Romaniote, Cochin Jews, Khazarian Jews, and Beta Yisrael. All has been fixed and a new rar file uploaded. Thank ya for the bug reports. :)

Aliyah Beta 2 Released
I'm happy to announce that Beta 2 is ready and uploaded. I did a lot of bug fixing and brought everything up to the current coding standards. I did find the right localisation keys for the expel other religion events.

New Stuff

Nazarenes have a society that is available to join right at the get go. The society is Daliyowtaw Nazirite and functions identically to the Christian orders already in game. Daliyowtaw Nazirite means Branches of the Nazirites which alludes to Shaul's writing in Romans 11 and the ruling handed down by Yaakov the Lesser's ruling in Acts 15.

To solve the problem of there not being a lot of Jewish characters in the game I had to take the existing tribal dynasties and turn them into landless titles. Now there are an abundant amount of Jewish characters which makes joining Daliyaowtaw Nazirite as easy as it is for Christians. I don't know if the tribal traits will apply to these titles as of yet. If anyone notices please let me know. If they aren't showing up then I'll have to write an event for them to apply.

A Jewish calendar is localised and in the Aliyah Optional Localisation. If you want to play the game with the proper Jewish calendar just put the csv file into the localisation folder.

Holy days have been localised for Shavuot, Sukkot, and Hanukkah. Enjoy the new Jewish holidays. :)

Future Plans

The next society I'll do is for Kabbalism. I'll leave it open to all, but Nazarenes and Ebionites to join. Ebionites will end up with their own Gnostic based sect. I need to do a lot of research on these two areas before I even attempt to work on them.

I'll be looking into making Temple Judaism use Papal Succession. It'll give them a nice change. For the rest I need to set up pentarchy seats and use autocephaly.

Next release should be making Aliyah compatible with CK2+ 4.07 Beta 6.

Please leave me any bug reports in this thread.

Thank you to everyone for the bug reports and help. I do appreciate it.

A quick hotfix was published due to an error in a starting event that would lead to a crash.

The mod was also published to Steam to make it easier for people to keep their version updated.

Tried the mod and got a crash and I'm pretty sure its the Maccabean guard. I can't tell if the crash is from the leaders of the order dying after being appointed or that the order is a barony. I suggest making them a county since wtwsms has shown counties to be viable.

Thank you, I'll get it fixed ASAP.

EDIT: I see what the problem is. It creates them because of the Nazarene characters, but since there is no Nagis of Jerusalem it will crash. I'll have to alter the current event and create a new one for Nazarenes.

New version is up with it fixed. The problem was the Maccabean Guards were to be vassalized by the religious heads for Temple Judaism, Grand Sanhedrin, and Nazarene. The problem was that the Nazarene liege was a king level title that didn't exist and no event written yet to create it. I changed it to the duchy level Nagid of the Nazarenes.

After spending time with an old friend, who also did the beta testing for Expanded Israel, discussing the Jewish and Kohen Sins events we came to the realization that the resolutions to those events were gamey, hysterically funny, and gave a ruler a high body count. I never did put in a mean time to happen so anytime a character had a sinful trait you as a ruler would get a notification and decide the fate of the poor hapless soul. You are presented with 3 choices. Make them pay a fine, purification, or execute them. Pay the fine gave you a piety and prestige hit but gave you some cash. Purification gave you piety bonus, but also a prestige hit. Execution gave you a piety bonus and potentially lots of cash.

The overhauled events would have a mean time to happen of about a year before it triggers. This gives the ai characters a chance to repent for their sins before you get notified. Upon notification you are presented with four options.

Option 1: You order them to repent which leads to a separate event. It has a chance of removing said sinful trait. If they fail then they are put to death and you get a piety boost.

Option 2: You help them with their repentance. This grants a bigger chance of removal while you earn piety and prestige plus a nice modifier from your vassals etc... about how nice you are in a separate event. This option is only available if you have kind, zealous, or charitable traits.

Option 3: If you have the cruel trait you can just outright execute them in accordance with the Torah. The cruel option gives you piety and prestige, but you also get maluses to global revolt risk and laxes. Said modifier would be 2.5% for every person you execute, so it will take some time to build up.

Option 4: You force them to go on a pilgrimage and they can remove the sinful trait that way. There is a chance that they could also gain more sins.

What does everyone think?

A cynical or secretly heathen ruler would just not care about this.

I don't know about that since a secret heathen ruler could use it to make it easier for them to switch the religion of everyone around them. A cynical ruler wouldn't care, but then they run the risk of being executed themselves. LOL

Maccabean Guard Hotfix
Every time that the maccabean guards form the game crashes

Okay, I'll take a look at it, but here is a replacement file that has the event reverted back to the way it was in Expanded Israel. It shouldn't fire without the temple being rebuilt. Just put the the file in My Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK2/mod/Aliyah/events.
