and you spend years unlocking diplomacy tradition so you can get Federation with 5-6 empires where you have 140-150+ opinion

Only to have zero of these empires want to join Federation because of a -50 base negative Malus.

I even get positive malus from two empires because they are Federation Builders. 15+ opinion and 20+ for builders.

How do I get these federations going?!? That entire tradition is about Federations. Ugh

What the cause of the Malus? If their beliefs is the problem, you could try, ahem, "liberating them" the new regime will adopt your beliefs.

Well the big one is is the base negative -50. Opinion is +15 and Federation builders is plus +20 or so. Not sure why opinion is 15 when I have 150+ In the contact screen

Yeah but what's the reason of the -50 ?

It's probably because they are Imperial Hegemonists and won't want a federation with anyone unless you both have a mutual threat, in that case they are happy to join your federation if they otherwise like you.

Yeah it may have nothing to do with you and everything to do with them. Some Empires just aren't friendly and this is even more common in later versions of Stellaris when far far far more aggressive Empire types where added.

I was in a federation with two other empires and than I had to break the federation and declare war on them because they wouldn't let me declare war on people and further my conquest.

They all quickly formed a Federation. Thirdly a game which I created a Federation set the status quo until the arrival of the Unbidden.

In ships we are ( or at least that what they say ) equally but his navel and technology is better so I'm doubting to go to war .

Is the issue due to their empires/pop nature? All you can do is insult the AI empire really, there's allways a thorn in the side. You could leave the empire to do so but to the dire of the Federation members.

Be careful of that Empire stuck behind you. In my game that just ended, I had one of those and they silently built up their military and just wiped me out. They stayed absolutely quiet for close to a hundred years before they decided they were done with me.

I got them on sight those dirty space cowboy's , I really want to go to war with them and I think it would be a 50/50 war but that's ok , the only problem is that my backyard neighbour has a defence pack with one empire who is way superior upon me and I'm not so sure that my alien buddy's where I have a good standing with wile help me go trough the ruff time coming if I go to war .
I don't have much trust in the AI of Stellaris .

I'd count on keeping positive number with the backyards empire defence pact partner. I guess you could keep offering token trade deals and if you had spare strategic resources you could set up 30 year trade deals. I've experienced this issue several times,where a far better developed empire has my walking target empires back.

Mister backyard empire has now 3 defence pact luckily I'm in very good position with those 3 empires but the problem is now that we all are sitting there making I suppose more ship better tech and so on waiting waiting waiting .

If you were to declare war on the backyard empire would the other empires come his aid? I mean do their empires show up as being his allies if you were to declare war. Shame you can't throw a spanner in the works.

Now it gets even creaser , now my backyard empire has 2 instead of 3 defensive pact in the mean time I'm in a federation with 2 other empires one empire has asked me to go in war with one of the enemy empires on his behalves and let that just be one who has done a defensive pact with my back yard empire .

I on the other hand am experiencing a good starting location between two Fallen Empires, ones a Spiritualist and the other a Xenophobe who gifting me thousands of energy and metals. Hooray

Have come across three pre-ftl species all in a row but no other AI empires with just a quarter the of galaxy scouted.
