Short summary of your issue [1.1] Console is invisible on Linux.

Game Version 1.1 (1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3)

What OS are you playing on?
Linux

What platform are you using?
Steam

Do you have mods enabled? Yes

Have you tried verifying your game files (Steam only)?
No

How much "pain" is this causing you?
1

Please explain the issue you experienced in the most condensed way possible
This has been tried with mods enabled and disabled. The console is invisible - the tooltips still show up (as per @balmung60 observing) and commands can be entered, but it's otherwise invisible.

Nothing seems to make any difference. Mods enabled or disabled and trying a new save all are the same.

Please explain how to reproduce the issue
Attempt to bring up the console. Default keybinding (`).

Is there anything else you think could help us identify/replicate the issue?
Is this potentially a graphics card/driver issue? Using an Nvidia GT1650 graphics card.

I have attached a save game
No

Also on Linux and the console does activate, but it's invisible. You can still activate the cheat buttons if you mouse over them (the tooltips still exist) and you can even enter commands if you can find where to select the text entry field (the cursor will change to a text entry symbol), you just can't see what you're typing.

Nvidia GTX 960

I'm working on getting an AMD computer up and running, but I had some problems with the hardware (defective power supply, heatsink too huge to seat the graphics card in the 16x PCIe slot), so it's on the back burner until I can work up the motivation to unbuild it, rewire it to a new power supply, and install a different heatsink.

All this said, I don't think it's a graphics hardware issue, but rather a matter of some files not being included or being referenced improperly, resulting in the debug window not being generated or not loading any textures.

I also have this issue - "Console is invisible on Linux"
It Does activate, i can see some button glitches if moving mouse near them.
Videocard - Radeon RX 5700 XT , Mesa 20.1.8

Switched to 1.0.3 - console is visible. Switched back - invisible.

Yours is the first time I've seen someone say this is with a non-Nvidia graphics card, @Wadlax - so that eliminates the (pretty small in the first place) possibility it's hardware/driver-related.

I don not think this is driver-opengl-mesa related:

2020_10_01__00_26_39__Screenshot.jpeg Console exists, not shown, but button thumbnails are shown.

2020_10_01__00_23_41__Screenshot.jpeg You can open (for example) "Visualize and edit GUI widgets" and that ingame window is drawn.

A little checked game/gui/console.gui
And copied contents from old "game/gfx/interface/debug/" to new "game/gfx/interface/_debug/" - still no luck.

(dont have much time now, may be will check tommorow)
May be some texture is missing or referenced with an error.

Something else I've noticed that may be related.

On the bottom-left corner, 1.0.3 would (hovering over your character) show the info panel about them. 1.1.1 doesn't.

No, @balmung60 - the console had been disabled at the time I took that screenshot. I have added a screenshot that shows what it does when you do have the console "up".

Another observation - without the console enabled, hovering over a spouse shows their information. Enable the console, however, and it shows yours.

Confirmed in 1.1.2

At a guess, check the textures those files in the debug gui folder are referencing and see if they exist and if so, whether the capitalization matches. Case sensitivity is often a reason that things that work in Windows and Mac don't work in Linux, even when the overall program works on all platforms.

@balmung60 - those files appear to be correct. errors.log has a lot of lines like "[22:18:39][/srv/jenkins/workspace/titus/cw/clausewitz/pdx_guieditor/gui_editor.cpp:642]: gui/console.gui:458 - Widget (id '2280') has not been destroyed" in them. I'll include it in case it's any use in diagnosing this issue.

I have the same problem too, in 1.1.2 with Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card and nvidia 440.100 drivers. I get the tooltips for the buttons, and the mouse to change to a text cursor, but none of the console is visible.

So, I managed to fix it, actually. Did it the following way. I'm on Manjaro with a Nvidia card. Turned off steam overlay but not sure if that helped too.

1. Hit tilde for the console. You can't see it, but mouse around in that area until you can see "Visualize and edit GUI widgets" pop up like you are mousing over the button.
2. Click "Outside parent" and uncheck "Show only Active File"

3. Filter on "gui/console.gui"
4. Pick [flowcontainer] console_window.
5. Pick [textbox] console_output_item
6. Under "Using", change tooltip_type from "widget" to "window."

Mine froze up for a minute but eventually the console popped up.
