[pdx_assert.cpp:612]: Assertion failed: [SPdxJsonSettingsIO] Failed to write setting to "pdx_settings.json". Reason : "Failed to open file for writing: E:/Données/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria 3/pdx_settings.json_temp"

From error.log in local "logs" folder for Victoria 3.
Game settings reset after every launch, it's impossible to change them.

Please explain how to reproduce the issue
Try whatever settings, accept them, close the game.
Relaunch the game, no settings have been save.

Is there anything else you think could help us identify/replicate the issue?

Yeah. Same issue. I think, that problem are with pdx_settings.json file, located within documents/paradox interactive/victoria 3 folder. I've tried to change it manually, but after every launch some bug erases all settings, I think so.

Same here. This also drop the language to default english after first restart of the game. And I cannot change it. Some possible remedy? Currently unplayable sadly(

Absolutely the same thing. Did not find any solution yet.

TEMP FIX FOR LANGUAGE CHANGING PROBLEM (still need to wait for Paradox patch)
1. Go to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria 3.
2. Find pdx_settings.json (after your 1 launch it will be filled with basic game settings, but after restarting the game it will be empty).
3. Open it with Notepad+ or similar program. (Windows notepad also works)
3. CTRL+V this {"System":{"language":"l_your_language"}} (change your_language line with language you need)
4. Go to pdx_settings.json file properties and set flag on "Read only" option.

Hope it works for you guys.

I've also noticed that while I can change the graphical/game settings in my game, when I close and launch the game again, it all becomes reset into default settings.

Edit : I've tested it multiple times, and one of the settings keep after reopening the game, not even if I run the game in Administrator mode.

Same here. Game rules also don't save. However, game itself saves fine.

I wonder if that problem can be related to <username> in C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Victoria 3 using non-English letters?

That is my case, and I know that some of the games on the market have the same problem. It also seems that most impacted players use non-English language in the game.

That is my thoughts as well. But how to change it without reinstalling windows? They have to release some hotfix or whatever, couse not being able to play normally preordered game kinda ridiculous... And I am ok with some other bugs and glitches but this kind of things really prevent me to start playing.

You need to put into that empty file the following:
{"System":{"language":"l_your_language"}}
and instead of 'your_language' type the one you need.

Finally it should be something like {"System":{"language":"l_english"}}
Then all you need to do is to tick the 'Read only' box in the file properties.

(OneDrive path include in window 11)

If this is the case of my settings not saving as well, then I'm out of luck, because I'm Korean and the "Documents" folder itself is renamed to a Korean Text
Either I receive the settings file from someone else or I'll have to wait until Paradox fixes this on their own.

I and some others have said that their documents path and user name is entirely in English ASCII non-special characters, yet we still have this problem.

Also, other Paradox games successfully write to this folder. Every other game does so too. If the problem is not being able to handle unicode user names, that's really a 1990s-era oversight that I thought I would never have to see again. It is something that Paradox really needs to fix soon. What about all the players who play in languages other than English? If saving game data in non-English Documents is so troublesome, then they should just save those files in the game directory. Many games do this.

Personally, I am hesitant to change a system folder path or otherwise tweak Windows just to get one game to behave properly, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't look forward to having to repair or reinstall their OS.

They actually commented it in the bug reports sticky thread with some steps of "workaround". The problem is that this workaround doesn't work.

So for the moment I personally use ''read only" on pdx_settings.json file, just after game launcher first time started/ File keeps initial language settings all the way. Other settings seems like is not possible to tweek for the moment. Official patch needed...
