Starting from A Feast for Crows bookmark the climatic conditions worsen quickly to settle to harsh winter that lasts more or less forever.
Is it connected to the white walkers invasion? In all my games they can never conquer the Wall (or other realm) even if they win the war, and they remain quiet behind the wall with their troops event.
Sometimes they "forget" to move their troops from a former enemy territory thus they can't declare war anymore.

Declare "war for the Dawn" on the white walkers, if you win in my experience winter stops.

I had this happen too, where no winter invasion events were happening, but it stayed harsh winter for over a decade. I did check for the white walkers pretty frequently, but nothing. I figured it was an isolated bug, but someone else is obviously having it too.

The Others decare war on neighbours via event. As long as they are undefeated and the cold_winds gobal flag is active, the only thing that can prevent them from declaring war is that they own every province in Westeros.

The only way to remove the global flag is to win the War for the Dawn. it's easy enough to console cheat that result should you desire. Once the flag is removed, winter will end normally (so could be a few years or a few months).

That doesn't sound like a bug at all. The longest winter I have ever had was 47 years and over 30 of them were harsh (and this was before the Others were added in). There are many people who have had even longer winters, so "over a decade" is nothing unusual.

I usually play 'normal winters' and I have had no winter that has lasted longer than maybe a year or so (the average is probably just a couple of months)! Am I supposed to play on 'long winters'?

I didn't think that option had even been in the mod for many versions now, but the 47 year winter I mentioned was done on the normal winters setting.

It was extraordinary to me because I've never had a decade long winter before. They usually only last a year or two for me, and are rarely harsh. I guess my luck just ran out, then:p
