Unpacked the files with BitZipper, asked for password which I typed in, ran the exe and it all downloaded, started the game, no problems, then when I click singer player campaign it says Darkest hour isn't responding and closes

Do you have correct check sums and game version reported in-game?

yup, everything is correct. maybe it's a problem with BitZipper, the files that are meant to be deleted by the patch haven't been and the obsolete files are still there as well as the patch exe which are all still in the darkest hour folder for some reason. everything but the full version works for single player

Copy your game to another location (like C:\games\Darkest Hour) and apply the patch and run the game from there.
