I have a question I've been debating in my head.

In the current game I'm playing the American player sent a chat message inquiring about the "upgrade" pre-war battleships and whether this exploit was legal. My response after thinking about it was if all sides did then why not. The reason I answered this way is without upgrading the "real" upgrades like radar, fire control, etc.. couldn't be done either. Is my thinking correct or wrong?

I am not sure if thats what you meant by "real upgrades can't be done either", but you could agree on upgrading it to the same model only... Its not that hard, and if someone cheats, its veeery easy to detect.

So if you upgrade the same model you get the new tech? I wasn't sure if what still like that. If that's true then I guess my question is moot.

Yep-the way it worked in previous patches.

Radars, etc, can boost ship stats very significantly :)

Then I retract my question.

though i know its all wrong...its kinda funny upgrading a pre-war dreadnought to a spanking new Yamato class BB......

Honestly, I think I'd say FFA on this issue - there is already a lot of stuff like tech sharing and parachutes which are IMHO much more important to "control".

From my experience not all people stick to house rules and I'd rather have it FFA then endless "hey, you cheated!"-"NO I DID NOT!"-discussions :p

1 thought about the ship upgrades...

If germany builds Prewar BBs and upgrades it later it has less IC spent and could build more BBs then when the German player would build Imp. or adv. BB right away. Same goes for Carriers and cruisers.
I would not consider it a cheat if anyone does it...
even tho its not that simple or rather impossible to upgrade a ship like that in real life. The advantage is on the allied side though because they got the big fleets at start.
On the other hand if germany goes mainly U-boots and builds coastals at first (cheap cheap cheap) and later the german player upgrades to Sub model III. electro ...or even nuklear big ouch on the Allied side.

Its a-historical but if anyone is alloud to do it I wouldnt mind it as a german player.
For germany Fleet is unimportend until late in the game anyway.
