1.05 not working for me

I recently just got XP and i reinstalled the game, but now when i download the patch it says the game can't be found. it used to work fine before i got xp .

I had the same problem wit EUII and a freind just gave me the zip file for the patch, i was either someone could give me the zip file if u can do that for HoI.

This is almost always a result of not using the right patch for your game version. What is the publisher of your version (probably Strategy First if you're in Canada) and what is the name of the file you downloaded? Also, did you upgrade to XP or do a clean install of it?

If you have the right patch, the problem is the path, Did you install to C drive and the default path? If not edit the registry entry to reflect the correct path to the game.

I upgraded to Xp, buut i unistalled everything when i did. I also bought the game in Canada and trying to patch with North American version, but i my desperation i also tried every other version too.

If youve got the NA version then stick with the NA patch. Just make sure that you unzip it to the correct directory. Amazingly, you dont even need to install the game to play it.

I had to reinstall a copy of XP and as I have all my apps and games on seperate partitions i had to reinstall most games, except HoI. Thats said, I did in the end. But in order to install the patch, it sould be simple as just unzipping the files to the correct area.

Furthermore, in order to install the executable version of the patch 105. I just changed the directory name to a folder I copied of 103, so that I kept the original copy of the 103 game.

In essense there is a registry entry that contains the HoI exectuable. Run regedit and find Hearts. You want the entry in the registry under

'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\HoI.exe'

If its not there perhaps that is why you are getting the error. Just a guess. but see if the registry has this entry.

Cant you change the path were 105 executable run, patch is pointing to?

Is your original copy of HoI was installed correctly, or are you just running a zipped copy of HoI, that you havent installed?

no i installed the game, not zipped. I still don't get y the patch isn't working.

Sorry, Idont think Paradox would appreciate that!

In that case, from what you have answered, i think castellon has its right.

- run the program 'regedit' from your XP start menu.
- Search from the partial phrase 'Hearts' in the registry.
- Goto the next entry until you come up against a key entry that is almost identical to this:
'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\HoI.exe'

It will have the path of the executable and game. If this isnt set correctly then thats what would seem to be causing your patch to not work.

Try it and see.

damni seriously starting to regret i got XP so many things are messed up. And this firewall thing is realy starting to pissme off, i can't host EUII games no more

Since you have attempted to install multiple patches I would suggest an uninstall.

Did you uninstall manually following the directions Castellon pointed to? After installing from the CD can you find any registy entries when searching for "hearts of iron"? Does it show up in your add/remove programs list? Very unlikely you will get a zipped patch; the only times they've done that in the past was when they had trouble building the installer and they wanted to get the patch out quickly. And if 1.05 doesn't work for you the next patch probably won't either and they'd have to do it again so the best thing to do is get the 1.05 installer to work.

I also use XP. And it's working like a gem. I must say I'm suprised at how strong my opponents have become. I just lost 9 mechanised divisions against Poland of all!!!! And Belgian and French troops have driven my armies out of Koeln!!!! In the old version I just needed a handfull of divisions do subdue Poland. Now I need much, much more troops. And my losses are so much higher then they used to.

Make sure you look under Strategy First in the Registry and Not Paradox, since they write thier own installer, they use a different path name than everyone else.

Also is the Strategy First log on the CD you have or is it a different logo, I know some people have recieved other publisher versions even in North America.
