Since I am kind of ignorant and didn't realize steam still updated your game even if you set it to 'no autoupdating', I am now stuck with 1.06. This would be okay, but I'm in the midst of writing an AAR and all the saves don't work.

I now have a backup, but the problem is that it is also 1.06 as I just made it.

Does anyone have the vanilla files for 1.05g that they could send to me or post on here? I probably need just about everything.

Thank you in advance.

The patches are available, see the "Manual download links" sticky thread above. What's not available for free download here is the base game, and that's the case for all games not just this one.

The patches above are intended for the GamersGate version, and will not be able to find where Steam install things. Furthermore patches are written to update older versions, not to backdate later versions.

The bottom line is that Steam do not (and never have) provided a way to run anything except the very latest patch for any game.

how about you @ Paradox provide download links for an unpatched game for everyone who has registered his game on this site like the folks over at "your" studio taleworlds do (mount&blade).

Feel free to suggest that in, say, The "Ask Paradox anything" thread or "forum help" forum.

Taleworlds provides a locked version that you need an activation key to unlock. Since we do not have activation, it becomes more complicated.

Hello,
I bought the boxed version of the game, hoping to avoid someone external taking control of my game, but my assumption that this would help at all was misguided since it installs directly from the CD to Steam. I don't understand what the point of owning the disk when you download half the game anyway, but that's another story.

I've asked this before elsewhere, without it getting the attention of any Paradox officials, so I'll ask again here: Is there anyway I can get back to 1.5g where I had an enjoyable progress of 200 years? I have seen -- afterwards -- that you did inform of this destructive patch on the forum, but I am not a regular visitor and did not get any warning.

It's a brilliant game, I've even bought two copies for my friends as well, but this incompatibility has been really frustrating. I would appreciate any help with this.

Nope. To avoid the external taking control just copy paste the game outside of the steam directory and run it via the ck2 exe, but leave a copy in the steam directory so when steam gets an update you dont need to redownload the whole thing.

Ok, thank you, that's going to be helpful. Is my current case lost, though?
