Hi,

I played a game as Italy (from 1936) and decided to take on Republican Spain before the civil war broke out.
After some time I annexed Republican Spain and soon after I liberated Nationalist Spain to become my puppet.

The AI starts building troops (regular infantry with artillery attachment and mountaineers) but fails to distribute them properly at important provinces.
The AI places ALL troops in La Coruna and refuse to move them anywhere, is this a known bug? Is it something I can do to "trigger" the AI to take control of it's troops?

EDIT: it's the 1.06A3 version I am playing.

Had the same problem playing as Germany (Annexed Republican Spain in the SCW, then backstabbed and annexed Nationalist Spain and re-released it as a puppet). I just took military control over them and deployed their troops in a more sensible fashion.

This is partially working as designed.

The concept of "puppet" in HOI2 is understood in the sense of historical Manchukuo. As such, puppets are not really expected to do more than just sit there and provide resources and military access to the master as well as occasional and limited expeditionary forces.

While I'm not at my own computer at the moment, I can guess the Nationalist AI was inactivated by its puppet status, which is normal since its standard AI assumes Nationalist Spain is an independent nation and is written as such.

What we could do is write up events and *.ai scripts for this eventuality, but this isn't high on our priority list, partially because you shouldn't be able to get away with this kind of stuff without a FRA/UK DoW.

So what I can promise you, however, is that the next time you try this in the upcoming 1.06 Beta2 you'll wake up with France and UK at your doorstep :) Not exactly what you expected, sure, but despite AoD carrying a lot of vanilla HOI around, we try to mend blatant un-historicity as best we can.

But as far as your already started game goes, release NAT SPA from its puppet status, and its standard AI should kick in once it achieves full independence.

Yayy, history for the win! :)
