Essentially it simply doesnt work. If you want to play a miltiplayer game everyone needs to revert to 1.08 until they get the new code working properly. Otherwise you will just drive yourself crazy :)

Yes, 4 hours waisted...

With 1.09 there is no chance of continuing a MP game with more then 2 players after a save... The game always crashes when the map view appears.
We can play, but unless you play all 300 years without stop, there is no point on it ;)

Nooo!

This is the worst news I've heard all day. I loaded the 1.09 patch last night, & it worked great. I played single player for 6+ hours without a crash - easily a record on my system. But I also play a regular MP game with some friends - the idea that I will have to uninstall 1.09 in order to continue is disheartening to say the least. :( Any chance that this MP bug will be resolved soon?

Please¡¡¡¡¡

Is too dificult create a Mp patch that runs correctly?
I beguin with 1.07 version, now I have 1.09 patch and 2.1 version, every week I'm istalling new patches and versions to improve the game, but also the most important problem was not resolved, the definitive MP patch. How many time we have to wait it?
I'm a little bit bored and tired to install inusefuls patches.

Thanks.

Err. Then why can I and 4 others players using IGC 2.1 and v1.09 in multiplayer, play almost everyday online continuing a savegame?

We are even experience less crashes then from v1.08.

:)

Hmm, Paradox also have not found any problems inhouse.
Would be interseting to know exactly what is differing between for instance your game and the ones I have tried to be appart of.

Please get in touch with me, I would really be interested in trying to play with U and see what happens. Just trying to load up a savegame as one of your players would be good for helping Paradox tracking down the bugs.

Did you have anyone with a North American version. If yes I think I know what the problem is. You see as Patric stated some lead programmer was absent in MacroVision when he sent the patch to Srategy First. So MacroVision used a different copy protection scheme then they ussually do, the new scheme is called "Safe Disc" or something like that which has caused multiplayer problems with some games I've previously played.

ABORT 1.09 / Start a clock watch for a solution!

Folks,

In repeated and exhaustive testing with about a dozen different players in the western US and Mexico over 17 HOURS in the last two days, 1.09 will not work with most setups (we tested all types of install combinations and techniques) and I am forced to agree with Suvorov that it sounds to me like safedisk could be at least one of the culprits. Prior to our installation and testing we were able to run GC MPs for extended periods, and even the earlier versions of IGC sometimes though only in two-way games for more than a few moments.

The two-way ceiling which 1.09 was supposed to solve, and we were so eagerly looking forward to using for specifically the IGC scenarios, still remains unbroken. 1.09 cannot even be declared stable for a two way.

Since I have heard of the safedisc debacle elsewhere, imagine my horror upon seeing that stupid logo display on my screen! I also found it made installation and uninstallation troublesome which was never the case before the 1.09 install. All of us who finally got rid of 1.09 have also found that subsequent reinstallations appear less stable than the original pre 1.09. It may be our friend from Denmark above has a non safedisc version, is playing on an lan/intranet, or perhaps he has some unusual configuration we should all know about (and if so we would all like to know what it is!), but with multiple machines and access to all types of software and connectivity options, we found our best option was the trash bin.

I have in fact gone fanatically back and wacked even the extract file of 1.09 in an irrational attempt to excorcise the monster...

Recovery required wacking everything EU and re-installing a virgin copy of 1.07c and adding the 1.08 patch. After ten hours of trial and error yesterday, we came to the conclusion that even with this, unless there is extremely close geographical position of the dial up players, even 1.08 is not going to be terribly stable. The RT nature of the game play makes buffering troublesome leading to lags and drops. Hence, until some solution is found I will only be playing MP games with other wideband users except for those near-by whom we have had successful experiments with in two-ways.

As a group, most of us remain committed to hanging in there until a solution is found (if there is one). We just hope it will be soon before the game goes on the shelf of those accustomed to less difficulty in achieving success in multiplayer. There is no scenario that can offer the diversity and unpredictability of the other human mind, and even more so, the multiple other human minds beyond the screen in front of you. It is fine for those of us who are die-hard fans of EU to belittle those with less committment to the game, but it is a simple and viscious truth that financial success is required if we want to see more of the same in the future.

God Help Us in Multiplayer land.

No, we are all using the English version.

Dennis, please answer my ICQ request.
I would really like to get in touch with you and your player group ASAP.
This problems in 1.09 are killing most of us in MP games and you might have access to the "vaccine" to save us all.

Stephan,

BTW, I doubt I will use mozilla anytime soon since I can see your site no prob with the latest IE, but I do want to compliment you on the wide range of stuff you have on there and the obvious work you put into it. Heck boy! Have you been outside in the last year and a half??? (If you toted the 'puter out onto your porch that does not count!). Great site!

Play on!

Well I only got the game for christmas and the EU stuff first went online in late january... so I have actually been outside in the last 18 months once or twice =).

Anyway, concerning browsers, the site is HTML & CSS 100% according to spec. Thus any standards compliant browser should be able to read it. Mozilla is only a recomendation since it's currently the best browser concerning keeping to spec, but e.g. IE 5.5 does a fairly good job at it too (even if it really mess up some layout stuff).
If your happy with your IE you don't have to change, but do download www.kmeleon.org just to check out all the stuff your missing out on. Who knows you might even decide to drop IE alltogether ,).

And as an update on the MP issues, playing with TheBoss and his friends I shure managed to provoke the same errors that has been haunting the rest of us in 1.09 MP.
Right now my money is on the game possibly creating corrupt savefiles when people are dropping from bad connections and/or "lagging in the timeline". This in turn is then causing a lot of ugly side effects that effectivly cripples most MP games.
People with good hardware resources and connections relative the played gamespeed thus might not see these problems more then occasionally (if ever).
This might also be why paradox sofar hasn't been able to reproduce the error either.

But this is just a theory of mine and we'll see what Johan and his wolfpack of programmers manage to sniff out when they tear the code apart =).
