Hello,

I'm having issues playing on the latest version of 1.34. The game is unplayable for me, where I get really low framerates and the game starts to stutter; these issues get progressively worse later on throughout a playthrough. I've tried the Faster Universalis mods and to no avail, no improvement. I would restart the save several times, and it would help a little bit, but then the game would presume to run terribly.

For now it seems I can really only play somewhat smoothly on 1.30, but I'd like that to change because I've not really been able to play Origins, Leviathan or Lions of the North.

I've got good PC specs and experienced no thermal throttling, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached the files you'll need.

Thank you.

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

Edit settings.txt as follows:
refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

vsync=no
THEN unload GeForce Experience if running, and try the game from the Steam PLAY button.

Is that any better?

It's helped with the screen tearing when panning the camera, but I still have the problem of generally low fps, particuarly as the game progresses. :(

What actual CPU and GPU temperatures are you seeing as the problem is evident in the game?

Playing right now and of this moment the CPU is about 59 degrees (I've overclocked my CPU), and the GPU is around 50 degrees. The slowness, low framerate has become unbearable now at 1605. Anywhere from 1550s I have to close out my campaign quick because the lag becomes unbearable. I thought it might be a GPU problem, so I tried a mod to lessen the load, but even then the game felt the same way. I'm able to play more freely pre-Leviathan -- it's not by any means smooth but still very playable.

I've tried reinstalling the game and verifying the integrity of the game files. I disabled the full screen optimisation on the executable found in the Steam folder. Somewhat perplexed -- want it to be hardware issue so I can fix it, but I can't find anything.

Any ideas if it's not throttling of the CPU/GPU what other settings I could look at? For the record, I've never had issues with CK3 with performance, only EU4.

Is this all on Speed 5 ? because it is very different to the others; does speed 4 work any better in this respect?

You did unload GeForce Experience before starting the game, yes?

Run msconfig in the Windows Search box. Go into boot-advanced. If Number of Processors is ticked there, untick it and apply and reboot.

And finally, undo any over-clocking you might have enabled.

If those don't help, I don't really have anything else to look at I'm afraid! Can you test an affected save game on any other machine you might have available to you?

Might be something to do with the OC. I've tried everything else. If all else fails I'll eventually be getting a new PC anyway. Thank you for your help!
