Just playing around with some modding, using Wave's nice guide. So here it is, the first step towards a CK mod for EU Rome! Say hello, Portugal. (I know, it should be Galicia. No offense to any gallegos out there ;)).

I still need to figure out how to do dynasties and need to create lieges and vassals and some actual characters, but it's a nice start I think. And of course the dates won't be right, so maybe I'll start in 66 AVC. Any ideas?

Daarn now I feel that I should have got my other modding guide published already.. It'll be based on actual modding, modifiers, events and stuff like that.

Anyway, I think that this will be very interesting mod to see whenever it starts to get ready.
Good luck to you with this and remember that if you need help this forum has been made for it so don't hesitate to ask ;)

Since you offered, Wave, how do I assign a character a dynasty name. It's not in the character files or the family files (I've found common/families/), and I can't have King Garcia II of Galicia going around with a Celtic surname. I'm trying to get medieval Iberia down first, so this is one of my immediate concerns. Thanks in advance.

Well, in yor case I'd probably recreate all cultures or at least add new ones, it's the common/cultures.txt

There you can set all male, female and family names. Also at least Roman culture has nicknames so you can use them to give that 'of Galicia' into the name I assume.

If you want some character(s) to be always same (as you'll probably do, for correct kings etc.) in history folder is characters sub folder where you can create single characters and give them right names. I'd say copy - paste someone, rename, re-ID and set other info right and you'll be doing fine.
Then you can add the character into country's history file.

Hopefully this helped :)
