Has anyone thought of making a DH mod based on 1984 by George Orwell? I think it would be pretty interesting, a massive grinding war between Oceania, East Asia, Eurasia and the disputed territories.

I'm thinking of trying to make such a mod, though I'm new to modding. Anyone know where to get a map of DH provinces? Tried to use this :http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?539437-Mod-Tool-Chopped-up-ID-Map. but paint refuses to open the file up.

You'll need a better program than Paint - it's such a large file that it simply won't be able to handle it. Try GIMP.

Can't say the gameplay of the mod would be very good, though, since the entire point, for all three superstates, is to keep the war going forever rather than actually win.

Assuming that Eastasia and Eurasia even actually exist. :p

Chopped-up-ID-map: you need to use either IrfanView (free) or Windows Photo Viewer, which is better, as you can zoom in and move about easier.

I always felt Oceania was the weakest given the declining rations.

1984 tells yo uthat it's all about a perpetual war between the 3 states. Every state dreams about winning the war and a global hegemony, but due to the doublethink, they know that the war should last forever. Plus, it's stated that every state is so powerful, that it can't be defeated even by the alliance of the others... :)

I was under the impression that no other state existed and that the war was just an illusion for better control the masses for the reasons given in the book.

That's not quite true. it's just that as soon as the war goes in favour of one pair one of the two 'backstabs' the other and the enemy switches as the former loser joins with one of the aggrieved parties...

though it's all BS, like strider above I thought that it was all about control and Britain was just an isolated island (nobody in the book knows anyone who knows anyone who has gone to war for example, the ministry for truth is the biggest one in London apart from the Ministry of Love...)

I've been thinking about this type of mod, but discared it as there simply isn't enough information provided to make it an establish scenario. There is doubt that a war exists at all. As for its hypothesized "winning" every nation benefits from it so they won't want to end it. The war gives them a reason to oppress their people even more. Julia(?) even drops one fine theory: Oceania bombs itself to fool people into thinking there is a war.

Anyhow:
Strong and Peaceful, Wise and Brave
Fighting the Fight for the whole world to save
We the people will ceaselessly strive
To keep our great revolution alive
Unfurl the banners, look at the screen
Never before has such glory been seen
Oceania, Oceania, Oceania, 'tis for thee.
Every Deed, Every Thought, 'tis for me
Every Deed, Every Thought, 'tis for me
Every Deed, Every Thought, 'tis for thee

That's the beauty - or rather, horror - of the book. Any number of theories about the truth can be advanced, but we'll never know if Eurasia and Eastasia even exist, or Oceania does either as much as it says (though I think it likely does do so, as Britain is only 'Airstrip One'). Whether there actually is a war is another question...
