I just tried to open play my AGoT mod of CKII and as soon as I select the mod and hit play the screen goes black like as if it is loading then all of a sudden the game stops and goes back to desktop, not like a crash but like as if I didn't even hit play at all. I must note that I was only playing this 4 hours ago.

Now I think I know the issue and that is because of the new patch it does not allow for mods such as AGoT to be played on it. There are posts like the link attached I am seeing on the tech support forum, all saying that mods will not work on 2.2. The question I have is can this be fixed? If not I will be deeply saddened as I have enjoyed this mod thoroughly. The fact that I have a Valaryian sword with my Greyjoy makes it more the joy (pardon the pun). I hope this gets some traction.

Sigh. There was just a major game update, that changes many important mechanics of the base game.

Every mod will have to be updated to work with the new version. That might take a few weeks.

Also, in steam you can simply roll back to the second latest patch if I am not mistaken. Just go to properties>betas and select the patch you want.

Sorry guys, don't mean to be a pain in the backside, just kinda panicked. I understand it would take a while and by no means did I expect a fix to be done overnight, considering that this is a volunteer effort (which I appreciate).

I just needed to know if there was a way of a cheap fix or something to do in the interim and since you said I can roll back to the second latest I will try that. Sorry again, I just was not aware of what I can do as I am used to playing my Paradox games outside of Steam, playing CKII is the first time I have been restricted to steam.

Despite being a Steam game it is also one of the ones with less DRM:)

What that means is that you can simply copy all the files in the ck2 folder and paste them somewhere else and it will still work, without the fear of auto-update.

Ah okay, I wil have to try and do that when I have time to. Thank you again, your advice has been priceless.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I can confirm the sad news first hand, AGoT will not work under the previous backdated patch on steam as it goes to 2.0.4. I will now have to wait patiently to for the next AGoT update. 0.8 was shotlived but I have confidence that the mod team wil be able to get a mod up and running. Now I need to wonder to myself, what can I do now considering AGoT was my life when I came home from work and after I dispensed of my family responsibilities lol.

Well... charlemagne's tribes are fun:p as heretical as it might seem, you could try vanilla.

Off with this vile heretic LsT_G's head for such preposterous proposition!

P.S.1. I'm so lucky I just today backed my steam ck2 2.1.6. folder before starting steam and managed to avoid terrible happenstance of having to wait for comp patch to 2.2. :D

And most probably than not, the mod update (please, be fast!!!!) will not be backward compatible, meaning the campaigns we were playing will not be playable anymore. Damn auto-updates.. WHY!?!?!?

Paradox should really add a pop up that tells you that mods aren't compatible right after a patch.

Being able to play as a Catholic with a harem of Norse women is fun.

I generally take it as given with the bigger mods. They have so many moving parts some of em are bound to break.

It's one of those common sense things.......but humans are VERY lacking in that stat.

Yes this is a horrible thing to contemplate, this is twice now I have had to start my Greyjoy campaign’s all over again . I have been starting from the BlackFyre rebellion and have done well in strengthening the Iron Islands and the Greyjoy dynasty through my web of marriages/alliances including having an alliance with the Starks and Tullys, which came in handy in a war against the Targaryen ruled Dorne (Martell’s died out, Targ inherit through marriage with last Martell Princess). Mind you I do find that the Blackfyre’s get the Iron throne far too easily for a rebellion against a sitting monarch, 3 out of 3 thus far the Blackfyres won the civil war, which leads me to believe how the Targaryens were even in power by Robert’s rebellion.

Eh, but Vanilla is so boring. I love PI games (3/4 of my games are PI), the only game that is on equal footing is my Football Manager game. But I find their Vanilla games too boring, always playing player initiated mods which add’s flavour and a range of other features that Vanilla would not have. I have not played a Vanilla PI game in 3 years due to my pickiness. I may pick up my HoI III from where I left off last year, update the mods I have and start a new.

Never the less I wish I did what you did and backed up

Bjorn said they're working on adding one, so worry not.

That is good to hear, gives a little breathing room for the mod team.

Yeah I have always considered it a given, I know how I wrote the initial post I seemed surprised but I know with large mods the patch always has a large effect sometimes nullifying it. In saying that I did not know what to do because when I used to play HoI I did not use steam and I use to have multiple back ups of HoI files to stop such events occurring.

Johan has released the 2.1.6 beta patch. There, you'll be able to get back to your puny dragons:p

Steam newbie question: How?
