For some time now - probably since the 2.7.0.2 update, if I remember correctly - I've been having persistent problems with CTD errors. Rather maddening, because I couldn't find any consistent cause. Just, after a while, my game would start crashing. Then it might load up and get through the date of the previous crash okay, and then a few weeks, months, or years of game time later, crash again.

Now, finally, I think I've managed to find a save file that crashes the game repeatedly:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/74gltu2iymz8eno/autosave.ck2?dl=0

This save file seems to load okay, then crashes immediately. Meanwhile, I've attached the current exceptions log (error log is an empty file). Certainly looks as if there's a buffer overflow happening in there, possibly triggered by a corrupted save or by some condition that takes place in the game. Any insight?

I was able to duplicate that problem in 2.7.0.2 and the currenti nternal beta of 2.7.1 , so it's a real problem.

I've logged a new bug report on it, and attached your save there for the devs to look at. Generally speaking there would be a fix in the next patch or two, depending on dealines.

Please put this save aside and try it under each new patch as they come out.

Sorry for this problem!

Are you playing with some sort of mod? You've got extremely high character IDs (1.5 billion and up), which is what leads to the crash.
I'm fixing the specific crash you're getting since that's simple enough, but you may well run into other issues as a result of those extreme numbers.

Okay, now I feel stupid. Looking back at my game files, yeah, it's not a formal mod, but I had added a few characters for the game start from an file I built a few years ago. The character IDs were from a range I was assigned back at game release, when I was thinking of building a full mod, and they were all in that high range. Which means all the new characters generated by the game will be in that range too. Of course, the reason I stopped using that file a long time ago was that the engine has always had trouble with those enormous character IDs.

Let me start over and reassign much lower character IDs this time, and we'll see if the 2.7.1 beta can handle that. If so, then this was self-inflicted damage after all.

Game crashing whatever I do. With/without mods crashes, various old versions of game still crashes, just crashes.....
Unless you are using the same mods the OP here was, you have a different problem. Please start your own fresh thread with full system details and problem history. Thanks.
