To be honest, I don't want to judge the choiches of a company, also because we don't know the process of decision making, but next year we are going to get at least three nice titles for people who love: dynasties, history or realistic-fantasy inspired by medieval europe and near areas, knights, role play.

The games are:

-Crusader Kings III
-Knights of Honor II: Sovereign
-Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Are three very different games, but this time the sequels of these series are going to be overlapped like never before. Just look at Bannerlord succession system.

The only big name absent is Total War: Medieval III

What you think about that? They are going to be more competing than before (especially considering the same year relase)or simply they will be coexisting without stealing each other players?

I was thinking about this exact same thing a lil while ago. KoH 2 looks fantastic and Bannerlord is... well its just bannerlord no need to hype it up. both of them look really really good so far (and ive been waiting on Bannerlord since it was first hinted at all those years ago). so honestly next year we are spoiled for choice and CK3 and Bannerlord are both extremely mod friendly so im frothing at the mouth for the mods that will be coming.

If anything i think the added competition will do CK3 good, it will drive PDX to compete even better with the others. so far id say in GSG's paradox have been unrivalled and from the looks of it KoH will be a good contender to CK3.

Ill be getting all 3 though, unless something comes up that puts me off, which i doubt. Ive waited years for KoH and Bannerlord and CK2 is one of my fave PC games of all time with Stellaris, HOI and EU4 close runner ups. and KoH will be a nostalgia trip too.

I hope other companies take a dip in the genre coz the more people that are in, the better the choices for the customers (and it'll drive the genre forward).. i do think CK and Bannerlord will steal it though, just both in different ways.

well, how many people are going to say, 'well, i'm not getting game A cos i own game B?' very few, i reckon

You forget that not everyone has the money for TWO 60$ Games

i did think about that, but what with sales'n'stuff, and the fact that people don't have to buy 2 $60 games within days or weeks of each other, i think my point is still valid.

the OP was about whether games which are vaguely similar will cannibalise each others' sales. i don't think they will

Yeah, that's a good point.

I don't think they will compete. Despite having the same time period, they are going after different experiences. Bannerlord is a more combat/war orientated roleplaying experience, while CK3 is about being more of a political/dynasty orientated roleplaying experience.

More than cannibalize sales is more about interest, but it depends also if they will be relased in the same months or not, and for sure Bannerlord is going to be out in Q1 2020 (even if early access only), and CKIII probably will be out late in the year, at least after the first half.

Sometimes this sort of thing can also synergize, in a sort of "oh, medieval stuff is in, I like this medieval game I'm playing, so let's see whether there's any other..." They probably shouldn't be released on the same day but otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.

And in CK case Paradox will play the long game again anyway ^^;
