Description: I am using an ironman game started as the duke of apulia.

Courtiers are arriving in my court seemingly out of no where and all of them have the same dynasty name (Di Zara) even though the dynasties are actually different.

They arrive usually in groups of 5 or less every month. and it hasn't stopped for two years in game, its affecting the fertility of my character and other courtiers.

I dont know what caused it, it seemingly just happened when my betrothed came of age

DLC: All Major DLC except Sunset inv and Sword of Islam

Mods: None

Reproduction Steps: I cant reproduce it as it only happened once and has not stopped

After talking about it in your thread here https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/infinite-courtier-generation-loop.1407620/
i found the reason for this.

Cause:
The italian Knights of Calatrava order being a merchant republic (!), with its capital in the italian county of Zara (in de jure duchy of Croatia)
and there spawing characters with that name made patricians, whose houses then get destroyed.

That way new di Zaras get created constantly, crteating patrician houses that get destroyed as an order can't be a merchant republic.
They then leave and end up in the court of the player.

A bug.
Rather clearly.

Now how did the holy order turn into a merchant republic ?

Hmm.... the father of the current head was head of the order himself, but he government symbol shows it as a holy order
and he only owned baronies as demesne.

Appears as if the Order revolted/fought a war against Venice and then conquered the counties of Croatia with cities as capital,
as Zara had been under Venice before and that turned at least the top character(s) to merchant republic as government type,
while the order top title still remained an order.

edit : Fixed in the campaign by taking the capital and the county of Zara.
Then the grandmaster has only castles in his demense left and adopts the holy order government again.
PS: He had given the other two cunties to vassals until i acted, so Zara has to be the only county in his demesne.

Thanks for figuring out what was going on.

Im guessing you used the chancellor to get a claim on the county?

also if, hypothetically, If I were to get your save and replace it with my ironman save on the cloud. will it disable achievements?

Edit:My Game has slowed down to a snails pace, (I'm guessing this is because my game is bloated by useless courtiers) I can't seem to fabricate a claim on zara and it seems that even if I do manage to sieze zara and fix the issue my game will still be slow because of the bloat from the courtiers.

Probably gonna have to start a new iron man game

Nope. I unironman'ed it and used a console command.
Tested it.
All you need to do is take Zara (c_zadar) from him (if it is the only county he holds directly) and the grandmaster
adopts the holy order government again. Easily said, i know.
I did that with a console command, so no idea right now how you could.

Most likely.
I believe to have managed to recreate an achievement save file by accident relatively recently, but don't know anymore how to replicate that.

Thanks for your help!

Hoepfully, a dev sees this and helps me with this issue, or at least makes sure this doesn't happen to anyone else

Edit:.. I can't seem to fabricate a claim on zara .

I forgot to mention that taking Zara only, only helps if it is the only demesne count of the doge/grandmaster.
When i took the county, some time had passed and he had given out the two other to vassals in the mean time.

Your best bet would likely be to change religion to a heresy and holy war the duchy to get all three counties at once.
