I tried playing online for the first time as minor countries to get warmed up. I tried Romania, Turkey and Czechovakia. All 3 games came to a rather dull end because in all 3 cases I couldn't declare war or have elections (Czech had one election with no effect). As Romania, I watched Italy (human player) take over the other baltic nations while I sat in boredom.

How do people play online if you can't go to war? Does this mean you can only play Germany/Italy/Japan?

A second bug was that we couldn't influence other countries although all other countries were engaging in a influencing orgy. When I played as Romania, France repeatedly influenced me into the democratic corner to ensure I couldn't play at all but my friend couldn't influence me at all.

I am going to move you over to the MP forum and see what they say. If after some consultation there you still fee like a bug report should be issued, feel free to post back here.

Don't play as a minor if you want a lot to do. One of the least enjoyable games I ever played was when a newbie chose to be Canada (despite many open majors) and complained the whole time that there was nothing to do.

The game is meant to revolve around the majors, if you want to be a minor be prepared for a less than stellar time, with a little less to do. If you want to be involved in all the wars, ally with Germany and have him declare war.

What about the no influence option? All other countries were doing the non-stop influencing thing but we didn't have the option at all. Is this a bug?

Also, how often do multiplayer games crash? I saw a thread with many tales of woe on it and now I'm having second thoughts about HOI online.

Is the site everyone plays on the link on the game multiplayer/valkrienet?

As far as influencing goes, I believe you can only influence nations if you are part of an alliance.

Crashes depend on a number of factors. We usually get an average of two maybe a night, playing for 5 hours with 6-8 people.
