DON'T use any of the gavelkind laws. Your titles are divided between all male heirs, and thus it is very difficult to continue playing. Use the Salic/Semisalic Primogeniture instead.

I think I know what might be causing this effect - there is a mistake in the scenario files for Danish characters.

I bet if you look at your characters, your old King has a different last name than his son. This was originally introduced to give them Scandinavia-specific "patronomies" (i.e. Eriksson, Svensson etc.), but caused them to belong to different dynasties so to speak (the game recognises only people with the same last name to belong to the same dynasty). So when your son inherits after you, the game compares your dynasty to that of your son, recognises them as different and causes "end of game" (i.e. "your dynasty died out").

As Havard pointed out in another thread, the scenario files are currently in the process of being adjusted/improved to avoid such glitches, which with thousands of characters are unavoidable.

What you can do is:
1. play non-Danish dynasty,
2. wait for fix,
3. go into characters scenario file for 1066, find all characters that belong to your king's family and change their dynasty id to be the same one as that of their father.

Hope that helps. :)

This happened to me, also, playing as Antioch in the 1187 scenario. I was playing that Houptaville family or whatever it's called. Had a son that was also a count (not present in my court). I would die and game would end. So I'd reload and a few years later I would die and game would end, even though my son is present in my successor box. Finally, when my guy got too old to last too much longer, I saved and reloaded as my son and when the old man kicked off, I inherited everything, just like I should. This can't be working as designed, can it?

Hm, I hope I explained that well enough...I just confused myself writing it, lol.

Svend Estridsøn is from dynasty "487", but his sons are from dynasty "485".

Open your last save with notepad, then search for either svend or 487, check that it's the correct person you are editing (his stats are something like 2/6/6/7), then edit his dynasty to 485.
You can see if it is working, as Svend should be named "Svend Svendson" and not "Estridson".
That is how I solved the problem in my semi-aar.

game over with salic consanguinity!?

Played 1066 with Denmark. changes inheritence laws to salic consanginity so that I can place my favorite son on the throne.
My eyes fall upon my son Erik Svendson who has me (Svend Estridsen) as father and no mother listed.
I make him Duke of Mecklenburg and he is listed as my prime successor in my character screen. then Svend Estridsen dies and the game ends saying game over!!!???

What gives? Am I doing something wrong here?!

Unbelivable, that actually worked. Good work and a big boo to the beta testers or whomever didn't rectify or notice this!

Fixed in 1.02
